Kenya’s early oil pilot scheme carried jointly with exploration firm Tullow has come to an end.
In a statement to newsrooms, Tullow said the two year license it had for the project aimed at testing Kenya’s oil commercial viability has ended.
Tullow Oil Chief Operating Officer Mark MacFarlane said the lessons learned in the scheme were critical in the full field development phase of Project Oil Kenya. Kenya was to export the second batch of crude oil in February this year.
This however became a cropper after Tullow in December 2019 suspended trucking due to poor roads conditions occasioned by heavy rains. The country earned some 1.2 billion shillings from 240,000 barrels sold to London based ChemChina UK Limited.
