Two Tanzanian nationals and a Kenyan were Tuesday charged with defrauding a man over Ksh.2 million pretending that they were able to cleanse his land of witchcraft.
The three suspects; Titus Fedha, Haji Shariff and Suleiman Salum, allegedly obtained Ksh.2 million by claiming that a piece of land belonging to Mr. Harbans Singh which he intended to sell had evil spirits.
The suspects claimed that Singh’s land located in Westlands, Nairobi had a snake and other witchcraft paraphernalia including cowry shells, gourds, black powders and assorted clothing.
The court was further told that the accused persons purported that the witchcraft paraphernalia required cleansing by burning the snake and scattering its ashes into the Indian Ocean.
The three also faced other counts among them cheating.
It is alleged that the three convinced Singh and his wife to part with the money for buying special oil to burn the snake, after which the suspects disappeared.
They denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of Ksh.300,000 each.
The case will be heard on September 26.
