Two university students drowned in River Yala in Bondo, Siaya County on Saturday evening.
The two; Derrick Auka — a Third Year student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology– and Sharon Atieno, a student at Bondo Technical Training Institute, had gone on a nature walk and were taking selfies when the incident occurred at Got-Winyo Bridge in Bondo Sub-county.
Bondo Township Chief said Sharon fell into the river while walking along the river bank and Auka drowned while trying to save the girl.
Bondo OCPD Harriet Kinya confirmed the incident saying officers had launched a search for the two as investigations continue
