No Biden, Bush or Clinton on presidential tickets for first time since 1976
The three familiar last names in US politics have been candidates for president or vice president in every presidential election from 1980 until 2020.
Republican George HW Bush ran as Ronald Reagan’s vice president in 1980 and 1984, and then as presidential candidate in 1984 and 1992.
Bill Clinton was the Democratic nominee in 1992 and again when he ran successfully for re-election in 1996.
George W Bush, the formerly mentioned Bush’s son, was elected to the presidency as a Republican in 2000 and won a second term in 2004.
Biden was on the Democratic ticket as Barack Obama’s running mate in 2008 and 2012. Then Hillary Clinton, president Clinton’s wife, became the Democratic nominee and lost to Trump in 2016.
Four years later, Biden beat Trump to the presidency. And the rest, as they say, is history.
