As the international deadline for the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting draws nearer, questions have been raised whether Uganda will have smooth migration.

All is set for the long awaited migration by Uganda television broadcasters from analogue to digital transmission. Minister of ICT Ruhakana Rugunda is expected to launch it tomorrow (May 21, 2013).

Uganda broadcasting Corporation (UBC), the projected official transmission distributor has already acquired most of the necessary initial digital equipment which are currently being planted at Kololo.

May 21, 2013 will be the ground breaking ceremony to flag off the migration and come June this year, a better part of Kampala and other surrounding cities should have shifted to digital signal.

Uganda media houses proprietors under their umbrella body the National Association of Broadcasters NAB are deeply concerned that despite these insinuations, Uganda is unlikely to beat the 2015 digital migration deadline.
