The volume of goods received in the new Mai Mahiu Inland Container Depot via the SGR has doubled in three months.
According to the data from the facility, the volume rose from 20 to 45 per cent. The government projects it could hit 60% of capacity by the end of the year.

Depot operations boss Peter Masinde from the Kenya Ports Authority said the number of containers is steadily increasing.

Speaking after hosting senior government officers at the facility, Masinde said revenue officers from Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan were already operating from the port.

“Currently we are operating at 45 per cent [of capacity], which is an improvement compared to two months ago and most of the cargo is destined for Uganda and Rwanda,” he said.

Dah!

Introductory offer. Kenyans are paying to subsidize UG&RW Cargo. Market will rebalance don't wank profusely
Introductory offers ended a long time ago. Currently the cargo revenues have reached kes 1.04 billion in july, the sgr needs about 1.5 billion monthly i.e. If covid 19 measures were not in place the sgr would have broken even.

I know you wish you're version were true, but unfortunately the sgr has started attracting importers and exporters who care more about efficiency than price. Dar port reduced prices by up to about 40% lower than Mombasa port yet Mombasa port is still the preferred port of entry into east and central africa i.e. Tanzanian taxpayers subsidizing two containers destined for Burundi.

Really I do empathize with your position after all the noise about "train to nowhere",(I feel your pain, why is Kenya not falling) and after the Kenyan sgr broke all your dreams by making the Mombasa port more efficient than majority of african ports.

Next time do not put all your hopes on sensational media headlines.

Introductory offer on ICD charges not Railway. Railway right now is making sense to Uganda & Rwanda because of the COVID19 border mandatory testing which is expensive and wastes time for trucks.

SGR is a dud, a failed grandiose project, which is not even worth discussing as it has already been declared an illegal project by courts.

I hope you know that ICD's in Kenya do not have any introductory offer currently.
As for sgr, I hope you know cognitive dissonance i.e. Holding onto a belief despite evidence pointing to the contrary.
Here are facts:

i) The sgr is currently raking in kes 1.04 billion monthly from cargo alone even with suspension of passenger services due to covid 19 and if you have any economic knowledge as you claim you will know that it takes time for a project of that magnitude to break even.

ii) The sgr has reduced delay time to 0 and 4.6 days for cargo making mombasa port the most efficient port in east, central, western, parts of north africa apart from Egypt, Southern Africa apart from Durban. While all other ports in africa average 20 days delay time for cargo.

iii) The SGR has consistently added 1.5% growth to kenyan GDP every year due to the knock on effect it has had on manufacturing, tourism, travel etc.

iv) The SGR has broken all targets in the feasibility study i.e. It was supposed to run 14 cargo trains daily by 2021 but it managed that by 2019

v) Turn around time for ships has reduced to less than 24 hours at mombasa port due to SGR.

NB: As stated before, I feel your pain. I know as a Tanzanian you badly need Kenya to fail. After all the headlines from the media, the sgr has turned out ot be a major breakthrough for Kenya and a great multiplier of Kenya's ambitions.

HINT: Importers and exporters do not agree with you. That is why despite the drama, they still choose the sgr over trucks.

Advice: Work more on finishing your sgr which is stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no functioning train or train station instead of trying to act Kenyan.

Boss you are flogging a dead horse. when SGR will ever become "successful" you wount have to write long essays here. Safaricom is successful, no need for a half brained "defence squad" like you to conjure harebrained stories.

for now SGR remains an illegal Corrupt project not worth discussing. Any money going there from GoK is a crime, and same for any so called revenues.

HERE IS THE INTRODUCTORY OFFER
KPA entices importers with extended free storage at Naivasha ICD
As you can see, you are bottom of the gutter hired defender, kula 575/- za leo kwa amani uwache kusumbua.

Another failed argument because you fail to address any of my points instead like a common Tanzanian you are looking for anything you can clutch on. Also I hope you have read august reports, 80% of cargo at Naivasha ICD which is transit cargo, has a dwell time of 0 to 4.6 days too like domestic cargo i.e. your argument on offers is not explaining this new report. Investment in technology and automation of ICD operations is what has driven up the efficiency at Naivasha ICD attracting importers and exporters.

Also the link you sent is on free storage not changes in pricing or efficiency while the thread touches on efficiency i.e. transit cargo on Naivasha port does not even use the extended free storage due to efficiency.

NB: I understand your resentment of Kenya. You wanted badly to be Kenyan probably your father or mother of kenyan origin left you in Tanzania and now you hold onto a delusion. Life is not fare deal with it.

HINT: Kenya extending free storage period for cargo is not different form Tanzania reducing port charges for importers at dar port. Only difference is our systems are efficient and importers ignore the low Tanzanian port charges for greater efficiency on the Kenyan network.

Advice: Not every one is a gluteus maximus licking sheal like you. No matter how much you bad mouth Kenya and Kenyans we will always and forever till Jesus come be above you ill educated Kenyan wannabes who do not know the difference between currency value and GDP.

The article is about ICD, confine yourself to that not go on tangents about where i was born where i live, etc, that is none of your business.

Plus SGR is an illegal project, I don't have the time to waste on that.

i) Borrowed from this other thread.

ii) Oh so now you have failed to argue on the economics of the SGR, you are jumping to few bits about procurement? Do you even hear yourself sometimes or is your judgement clouded.

- The courts did not declare the sgr illegal it declared the contract with CRBC as illegal, those are two different things. What the courts said is hiring CRBC did not follow procurement laws at that time. Kenya did not have a comprehensive government to government framework on procurement, that has been corrected. Get your facts right before commenting on matters you know nothing about.
