FORMER Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya is to appear in Court today to answer charges of abuse of office over vehicles procurement process.
Senior Principal Grade One magistrate Sarah Langa Siu issued summon for Bukenya last week following a Constitutional Court ruling which rejected his petition challenging his trial.
The summon to Bukenya signed by Magistrate Langa states, You are hereby commanded to attend court on the 23rd day of August, 2011 at 9:00am in the afternoon or as soon thereon as the case will be heard to answer the charges, of abuse of office under section 11 of the Anti- Corruption Act, 2009 and fraudulent practice under section95 (1) (d) of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act, 2003.
The summons dated August11, 20011 was issued on the request of the Inspectorate of Government to have Bukenya appeared in court.
Bukenyas lawyer MacDosman Kabega said his client was served with the summon to appear.
He had also cited an unequal treatment to that of other ministers with whom he allegedly carried out the CHOGM decision and argued that the IGG charged him illegally.
Five Judges last week rule that Bukenya has no presidential immunity and therefore should stand trial. The judges directed that the file be taken back to Anti- Corruption Court
Bukenya had sought to block his trial in a petition to the Constitutional Court, citing presidential immunity.
