President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined the long list of famous left-handed leaders.

Mr Kenyatta, who was sworn in as Kenya’s fourth president Tuesday after winning the March 4 General Election, is now one of the left-handed presidents.

US, for instance, has had eight left-handed presidents, including Mr Barack Obama.

Other former US leaders who were left-handed were James A. Garfield, Herbert Hoover, Harry S. Truman, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron is also left-handed. Others in the left-handed league included Alexander The Great, Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar, Simon Bolivar, Queen Victoria, King George VI, Mahatma Gandhi, Otto von Bismarck, Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein.

Left-handedness is an uncommon attribute in the world, as most people are right-handed.

In the earlier times, lefties were looked down upon by society, as it was wrongly associated with evil, immorality and wrongdoing.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, left-handedness was considered a disability and teachers would make efforts to suppress it in their students, especially in the US.

However, some left-handed individuals have risen to become leaders of most powerful countries in the world.

Bad omen

Myths from around the world associate negativity with the left hand. The Meru believe the left hand of a holy man must be hidden from view because it is the source of potent evil powers.

The custom of wearing the wedding ring on the left hand among the Greek and later the Romans was to ward off evil, which they believed came from the left hand.

I was also amazed and thought this will be the greatest leader of all time in Kenya's history - he is going to equally surprise people by making Kenyans come together to make a great nation of its time.
