Kenya: 35 Kenyan Students to Study in China As New Railway Nears Completion

Nairobi — Thirty-five Kenyan students will depart to China at the end of February on a scholarship program to prepare them for Kenya's new railway.

Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said the students will receive undergraduate education at Beijing Jiaotong University, a top university in China for railway studies.

"The students will receive high-level training for operating Kenya's railway and even the East African railway network in the future," Macharia said.

East Africa: Uganda and Kenya Seeking Standard Gauge Railway Funds in China

Finance ministers from Kenya and Uganda are set to travel to China at the end of this month to negotiate financing for the construction of a cross-border railway.

In a move that would transform the East African infrastructure landscape, the delegation - which will include the transportation ministers of both countries - will present proposals to the China Export Import Bank, an institution that has largely financed similar big projects in Africa.

According to Kenya's Finance Ministry, a letter outlining the two countries' intent to jointly pursue the implementation of the Nairobi-Malaba-Kampala Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has already been dispatched to Kampala for signatures. The letter, also copied to the Chinese Finance Ministry and the Export-Import Bank of China, requests a joint visit to China from Feb 27 to March 4.

They will be confused.... They get out of the airport and into the bush with the wild animals within a blink of an eye and later on be on the beach in a matter of hours with just the same comfort or even better than they have back home...... Aaarg! Sorry i am twang in nuh!
