A modern primary school valued at 300m/- has been constructed in the remote Loibosiret village in Simanjiro District.
The school is a donation from the US-based billionaire and founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation, Bill Austin who was in the country for the official handing over the weekend in the district where Simanjiro Member of Parliament, Christopher Ole Sendeka, received the school on behalf of the government.
Loibosiret Primary School becomes the third to be built in the area inhabited by Pastoralists' Maasai community and is meant to empower the marginalized groups in the remote area almost 189km from the city of Arusha.
MP Sendeka commended the US billionaire for his support towards boosting education sector in Tanzania.
Project Manager, Alais Ndook, from Majitech Engineering company noted that Starkey Hearing Foundation has so far built three schools in the area bearing a total worth of 522m/-.
"The first phase of the school project was construction of three classrooms, one staff office and two staff houses and it provided big relief to the Maasai community in this area," he commented.
Head Teacher of the new Loibosiret Primary school, Elikana Samuel, said before construction of the School, children in the village were forced to trek up to 15 km to and from the closest school.
"It is very tiring and dangerous…it led to very low enrollments," he lamented.
"We now already have 79 new standard one enrollments," he said.
