We first met Sammy who in the streets is famously known as Blackie, lying on the grass at Central Park – Nairobi. He was with his friends but seemed disinterested with their little ‘puff and pass’ ritual as they day dreamed their afternoon away. His face told of a discomfort and on inquiry, Blackie confirmed that a tooth was slowly writhing life out of him. It was a usual ice breaking conversation until we asked if he had ever fallen in love. His eyes lit up and he gave a hearty smile exposing his nicotine filled dental formula. The question almost seemed therapeutic as he in heavy sheng lingual started describing his girlfriend. It was almost unbelievable that love would conform to such settings, a complete slap on the many things we have forcefully evolved love to.

I am a sucker for tales about transformation, change and new horizons. Politically(ie. Rwanda), individually, etc., etc. I have been following up on this couple's story and I have to say that I am truly dissapointed by human nature. Blackie and Virginia are back on the streets of Nairobi! Behind Gallitos to be exact, same spot where they were initially 'discovered'. After many false promises of jobs, rent, opportunites and whatnot. Atleast they are still together but f¥<k Muchiri Frames, Bonfire Adventures and all the other representatives from companies that used this street couple for PR. May the bastards all rot in eternal hell!
