The vetting of the nominees to the cabinet,,has started off, this morning with
the secretary for planning and devolution,,Mrs Anne Wambugu,,being the
first on the stage and finished,,a while ago.

At the moment,,it is the turn of Rachel Omamo,,secretary for defense,
being grilled by the parliament's vetting committee where both sides
of Jubilee and cord,,are in,,attendance.

There was fear that the cord side was not going to attend and so
let the whole thing look like a Jubilee affair,,but now,,,everything
is going well.

This exercise will go up to Saturday,,in the evening where Najib
Balala will be the last,,to be vetted.

The whole thing is being done,,,in the public where some TV
station,,are broadcasting,,to the whole nation.

I'm watching the Citizen TV.

These are new times,,with new ways of doing things,,,
in Kenya.

I like how Kenyan Cabinet Nominees are vetted before getting the job. All nominees are summoned before selected panel and interviewed. Sio sisi hapa Tanzania mtu au watu wawili wanachagua majina ya marafiki na maswahiba wao then tunatangaziwa Baraza la Mawaziri.

Kama haitoshi wenzetu wanarusha Live coverage. We really need a new Katiba...

Deadlock over two Cabinet nominees

Nairobi-Kenya:
The Vetting Committee of Parliament is deadlocked over the fate of two Cabinet Secretary nominees and is battling to overcome the challenges ahead of today's deadline.

The committee which has been meeting to write the report is finalizing its work at Windsor Hotel in Nairobi County. The committee is chaired by Speaker of the National Assembly.

MPs were divided whether to endorse the list presented by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in full.

MPs who spoke to the Standard Digital said there was consensus that one nominee who performed dismally during the vetting exercise be knocked off the list on grounds of incompetence.

"She totally failed the interview and members of the public will not take this committee serious if we allow her to pass the test. It was live on TV and Kenyans do not deserve such level of incompetence." An MP said.

The second candidate is facing decent on political grounds after a section MPs questioned his role in politics and particularly the last General Election.

The committee is expected to complete the report today, gazette and table it before the whole House.

A member of the vetting committee who requested anonymity because House rules bar discussion of the report in the media without authority said:
" It was strange the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission cleared all the candidates arguing it had no adverse issues with any of the nominees."

It now remains to be seen what fate will befall the duo when the final report is made public amid massive lobbying to have the entire list endorsed.

MPs who spoke to the Standard Digital said there was consensus that one nominee who performed dismally during the vetting exercise be knocked off the list on grounds of incompetence.

This nominee,,Phyllis Kandie,,,her only sin is that she was shy during the interview
and that she lacked the knowledge of the docket she was going to head.

But when the matter was presented into the parliament,,,,many were of the
thought that the committee was just trying to find a fault with her so as
not to appear as if they endorsed the full list by president Kenyatta and
so the report was amended and Phyllis Kandie is a full minister now
together with Davis Chichir.
