In a bid to increase earnings, Vodacom has agreed to sell 1,149 phone towers in Tanzania to an infrastructure company backed by investors including George Soros

The wireless carrier, South Africa's largest, will obtain a 24.5 percent stake in the tower company, Helios Towers Tanzania, as part of the deal, according to a statement from Helios today. No financial details were disclosed. Helios Towers Tanzania is a unit of Helios Towers Africa.

Infrastructure disposals can help wireless carriers reduce costs and focus on customer services and marketing. Johannesburg-based Vodacom, seeking to boost earnings as revenue from domestic voice connections falls, will lease back the towers from Helios.

The deal expands Helios's network to 4,700 towers across the continent and more than doubles its presence in Tanzania. Investors in Helios Towers Africa include billionaire Soros's Quantum Strategic Partners, Albright Capital Management LLC, RIT Capital Partners Plc and International Finance Corp.

The agreement is valued at about $75 million, the Financial Times reported today, without saying where it got the information.

Voda wanawauzia minara hao Helios Towers Tanzania.

Baada ya kuuza Voda watakuwa wanamiliki asilimia 24.5 ya share kwenye Helios Towers Tanzania.

Vipi ile transaction ya Mantra Resources Ltd (wamiliki wa project ya Uranium ya Mto Mkuju) wamekubali kulipa CGT ya $196? Kesi imeisha?

Baada ya kuiba vya kutosha sasa wanajiandaa kuihama nchi. Naona economic boycott yetu inawatisha. Ile kufikiria tu jinsi ambavyo watapoteza mapato kwa kuzimiwa simu kumewapa kiwewe.

I'm amang those people who plans to discard vodacom sim cards the company is now robbing my air time . I have recharged 1000/= air time through M pesa this morning and received notification when tried to subscrib to internet bundle of 900/= the notification came that you do not enough balance, to check the balance is 797.29 what is it if not thefty? I plan to throw away this anoying simcard

Nadhani ni international transactions kati ya Vodacom SA na Hellios SA juu kwa juu ,sisi hapa tunaambulia vumbi!.

Ile deal ya hostile take over kiwanda cha bia cha Kibo ilifungwa juu kwa juu, tuliambulia patupu!.

Transfer from Celtel to Zain to Airtel pia tumetoka kapa!.

voda wanawauzia helios towers minara waiendeshe voda wao wanakua wananunua huduma tu ya kuweka network kwenye hizo towers.... helios anaweza kuzitumia kwa kuwapangisha hata watu wengine pia!!! implication yake ni kwenye ajira zaidi kwan voda haitahitaji engineers waliokua wanaendesha towers na jamaa mpya anayekuja lazima atanegotiate lower salary ili arudishe pesa zake ndio maana sekta ya telecom imekua mbaya sana ktk suala la ajira hata nawashauri vijana wasikimbilie kusoma kozi za telecom kwan kwa sasa hazilipi kabisa kama miaka 10 iliyopita ilipokua hot cake!!! binafsi nipo kwenye sekta sekta ii lakini naona mziki wake tuna jamaa wamesoma telecom leo hii wanafanya kazi viwanda vya sabuni nk

Pasco are you sure? Nilidhani Finance Act 2012 iliziba huu mwanya?

As far as I remember, Section 56 of that Act introduced into the ICTA a new charge to tax arises where the underlying ownership of an entity changes by more than 50 per cent occurs.

The change in ownership triggers a deemed disposal and re-acquisition of assets owned and any liabilities owed by the entity immediately before the change in ownership.

This measure was particularly targeted at the disposal of offshore holding companies, but it can apply equally to an ‘on-shore' direct disposal. It is also a deemed disposal at the local level.
