Baada ya ya kujua vya kula vya carbs (wanga) na protein katika threads za nyuma,leo tunasonga mbele kuzungumzia lipids kama aina ya mwisho ya macro-nutrients.

Lipids: ni vyakula vyote vya mafuta (Fat and oil).Vyakula vya mafuta vipo katika makundi 2:
√saturated lipids (fat)-Have double bond
√Unsaturated lipids (oil)-Have single bond.

Saturated lipids:
ni mafuta yanayo patikana kwenye nyama,chicken, milk products,butters (siagi),cheese n.k
Mafuta yanayotokana na wanyama huweza kusababisha matatizo ya moyo pamoja na matatizo kwenye mishipa ya damu.

Unsaturated lipids;
ni mafuta ya yatokanoyo na mbegu za mimea (karanga,korosho,ufuta,mbegu za maboga, alizeti ), mafuta ya mahindi n.k

NB: mafuta yatokayo na wanyama si mazuri kiafya ukilinganisha na mafuta yatokanayo na mimea.Hii ni kwa sababu mafuta ya wanyama ni saturated fat.Hivyo tuna shauriwa kutumia mafuta yatokayo na mimea zaidi kuliko yale yanayotokana na wanyama.

Kazi ya lipids katika mwili:

•Huzuia upotevu wa joto mwilini
•Huongeza nguvu mwilini ambayo ni muhimu sana kwa watoto wadogo
•Hufanya chakula kiwe na radha nzuri.
