Two patients out of the 31 who have tested positive for the coronavirus in Kenya are in critical condition and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced.
In a press briefing on Friday, the Health CS said the two patients are admitted at the Aga Khan hospital ICU, noting that one of them is a Kenyan citizen and the other a French national.
“Together with medical teams at the hospital, we are closely monitoring their treatment and they are behaving well,” said the Health CS.
The CS noted that over the last 24 hours, 156 samples from suspected cases of COVID-19 had been tested across the country with all turning out negative for the coronavirus.
“… therefore the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kenya remains 31,” said the CS.
He further mentioned that out of the 31 confirmed cases, Nairobi is leading with 21 cases, followed by Kilifi at six, Mombasa at two, with Kajiado and Kwale County having one case each.
CS Kagwe further noted that the confirmed cases are 19 male and 12 female.
The Health Cabinet Secretary further said medical teams have so far identified 1,067 individuals believed to be close contacts of the patients who have tested positive.
Out of the 1,067, 136 had been discharged after completing the 14 day mandatory follow up period.
“We are now remaining with 931 close contacts that our contact tracing teams are monitoring,” said CS Kagwe.
Meanwhile, five individuals admitted at the Mbagathi Hospital awaiting their test results.
