The second passenger train on the newly launched standard gauge railway left the Miritini station in Mombasa for Nairobi at 9am on Thursday.

Excited passengers arrived as early as 7.30am and booked tickets for their journey.

The passengers paid Sh700, passed through security checks before being ushered to a waiting bay.

“We left Mombasa at 9am, we are now in Emali, the seats are comfortable with enough legroom,” said passenger Ibrahim Bocha.

He added that at every station along the railway line, passengers were informed through public address systems where they were.

GOOD TIDINGS

On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta joined over one thousand people, among them diplomats and senior government officials, on the inaugural ride aboard the train, christened Madaraka Express.

The President said the inaugural trip signalled the start of good tidings for the transport system in the country.

Mr Bocha further said that upon reaching Tsavo national park, the crew alerted passengers who excitedly got a chance to see wild animals such as elephants and buffaloes along the way.

He added that the crew also apologised for not providing dining services to passengers promising that they would resume in subsequent trips.

During the inaugural trip, the over 1,200 passengers were treated to free meals.

Another passenger Mr Mbatia John said the train ride was exciting, comfortable and secure compared to travelling by buses.

“There are no bumps or potholes, the ride is so smooth and I am not tired at all, there are also police officers on board” said Mr John.

Kuna new routes zimeundwa, kwa mfano Nairobi to Moyale, mabasi yanaweza safirisha abiria kwa routes hizi. Reducing prices makes life easier for Kenyans, that extra 500 can support a family for almost half a week. For trucks auxillary services are going to be in demand, for instance from Nairobi ICD to business premises, plus the new routes created. In fact truck owners and manufactures think more trucks are needed, because stocks will be changed several times in a year now and the port will handle more cargo.
Kenya is big, the bus owners who think the route is chocked can always move to other routes.

Kwa hiyo huo ni umbali kama wa Dar-Dodoma(458 km) ambapo ni Tsh 20,000/- hadi 22,000, au Dar-Lindi(km450) 22,000 Luxury and Semi Luxury Coach.

Nilifikiri umbali unafika kilometa 640 (mile 400) kutoka Mombasa to Nairobi. Kumbe siyo mbali sana. Kwa gari dogo ni 4-5hours,max 6hrs kama ni hizo 472km
