Maafisa wa Huduma ya Wanyamapori ya Kenya (KWS) huko Mombasa wamewakamata raia wawili wa Tanzania kwa tuhuma za kujihusisha na biashara haramu ya pembe za ndovu zenye thamani ya Ksh milioni 3.3. (Takriban Tsh. Milioni 56) Katika operesheni ya pamoja na maafisa wa Kituo cha Polisi cha Mtwapa, Paul Kuya (miaka 36) na Paul Telek (miaka 29) walikamatwa katika maficho yao eneo la Majengo.
Pembe za ndovu kumi na moja zenye uzito wa kilo 32.924 zilipatikana zikiwa zimehifadhiwa kwenye mifuko ya nailoni ndani ya mabegi matatu. Kulingana na ripoti ya Mkurugenzi wa Upelelezi wa Jinai (DCI), inadaiwa kuwa wafanyabiashara hao wa magendo walisafiri kutoka Tanzania kupitia mpaka wa Namanga hadi Kenya kwa lengo la kutafuta wanunuzi wa bidhaa hizo haramu.
Kwa sasa, watuhumiwa wanashikiliwa katika Kituo cha Polisi cha Mtwapa wakisubiri kufikishwa mahakamani. Pembe za ndovu zilizokamatwa zimehifadhiwa kwa uangalizi maalum kwa ajili ya kutumika kama vielelezo mahakamani

Police officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in Mombasa have apprehended two Tanzanian nationals for illegally trading elephant tusks valued at Ksh.3.3 million.
In a joint operation with officers from Mtwapa Police Station, Paul Kuya, 36, and Paul Telek, 29, were nabbed at their hideout in the Majengo area.
Eleven elephant tusks weighing 32.924 kilograms were found concealed in nylon sacks packed in three bags.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that the smugglers had travelled from Tanzania to Kenya via the Namanga border to seek potential buyers for the illicit items.
The two are being held in custody at Mtwapa Police Station as they await arraignment.
Meanwhile, the seized elephant tusks are being kept in safe custody to be used as exhibits.
