Members of Parliament spend their first year wondering how they managed to get elected, and the rest of their time in office wondering how their colleagues got elected.

Do you agree? if yes why do you think so.

My point to the above Quote is, we, as Ordinary people/Citizen/Voters need some significant support to believe that our representatives are going to be able to fulfill their most fundamental duty that of holding government to account and being the watchdog and gate-keepers of the nation’s finances and the public purse. This is particularly true when MPs are called upon to vote on proposed spending (at around 7.30pm in the on-going Bunge sessions) in the form of the Main Estimates. The Main Estimates arrive in a massive tangle of numbers and notes, in fact, the government does not conceal what it is doing, BUT in effect it chooses not to reveal much. Do you think that our MPs can do an objective analysis and explanation of an overwhelming data dump of proposed spending!? Most MPs would require a Sherpa guide, four men of stout heart and the blessing of the Almighty God to mount an expedition required to comprehend these figures!!Albeit, why they spend their term wondering how they managed to get elected!!!
