Why are Kenyans considering Hoima-Tanga route not regional?

Bypass mind u this same Kenya known of greedy to an extent of blocking sugar, eggs n chicken from Uganda aside blocking tour vans from Arusha from accessing JKiA!

That is why Uhuru has said it is good for them and the region eventually. Do you read the posts you post?

Geza, did I just read what you wrote right, did you just say Kenya transporting to Hoima is shorter than Lokichar? Utter bollocks this is

Hebu nikuulize, how's transporting oil from it's source to another country so as to flow through yet another country 's pipeline to a coast farther than the originally planned shorter? Hio ni kama kusema importing dar's goods via mombasa is shorter, utter bollocks.

And you keep forgetting this, but I'll remind you anyway. Lamu is not about oil and pipelines. You do not build a 32 berths port to export oil! The oil infrastructure alone (pipeline + refinery) totals below 500bn in a project costing 2.5trn. South Sudan are at loggerheads with Total due to splitting the company's massive oil bloc, bundling them out of these oil fields and awarding significant portions to Kuwait's kufpec and US's ExxonMobil so unless their relationship with Northern Sudan thaws completely, that is more oil than you can fathom.

And that's what Kenya's Lapset anticipated

Don't take the moral high ground here. Not only has Tanzania been blocking Kenyan vans from accessing your airports, it has blocked them from accessing any touring site all together for fear of being out competed.

Ugandan eggs, chicken and sugar have access to the Kenyan market, what caused an uproar particularly in the sugar subsector is the fact that they were importing cheap Brazilian sugar, repacking it as their own and selling it to Kenya. Consider the fact that the amount of sugar Uganda was exporting to Kenya was more than double its surplus, without causing any shortages back in Uganda.

Kenya would have acted in its best interest as any other country. Tanzania would have also done the same thing. My point is ..All one can do is try and convince the other country that using its route would be beneficial to it. It has nothing to do with being a good neighbour. That's why no one is saying UG did the wrong thing. Hence kenyatta hoped...keyword ...hoped it was a regional. I have no doubt there is going to be a link to hoima as an alternative route. But not to take kenyan oil to tanga. It will probably be to the refinery or/and as a backup for UG oil.

We all know what the JkIA thing was about. It was more of trying to renegotiate deals. As for sugar from UG. It was more about imported sugar from Brazil that is repackaged and sold in kenya as Ugandan sugar. Surely no country can allow that. For you info M7 has a couple of companies here including a cement factory in Athi river

On a different note . Brexit is on today. It would be interesting to watch the markets. Already yesterday there was a 70%dip in market vol at the NSE. We really need as Africans invest more in our stock markets ...just a thought

What you don't know is these investors view Africa as a block, and Kenya will survive anyhow, you thought we were fools when we took the imf precautionary loan...even without it our import cover now stands at 752bn...I pity SA,Nigeria,ANGOLA...when they are just on the verge of a recovery this may happen.

Kenya and Ethiopia on Thursday signed a new deal on construction of an oil pipeline.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ethiopia Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn signed the agreement on the proposed pipeline that would run from Lamu to Addis Ababa.

The deal means that the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (Lapsset) project launched in 2012 is still on.

On Thursday, President Kenyatta told reporters that the construction of Lapsset-related facilities will be "fast-tracked."

These facilities include linking roads between the two countries, an international airport in Isiolo town and a sea port in Lamu.

Kenya was left in the cold after Uganda and Rwanda opted to use the Tanzania route for transport projects.

Uganda chose to use Tanzania for its oil pipeline route. Rwanda announced it had also opted for Tanzania in building its standard gauge railway.

Both countries argued it would be expensive to build the facilities through Kenya, which also could not guarantee security for them.

On Thursday, the Kenyan and Ethiopian leaders said the commitment to Lapsset is still strong and vowed to speed up the construction.

They signed five agreements on energy, animal health, education and sports.

To improve relations further, the two countries will also hold an annual joint marathon event.

Ethiopia and Kenya have produced some of the best long-distance athletes in world championships.

Te te te.....mlichokoza nyuki na sasa yu tayari kuwamonda mishale lukuki!!

but why is Uhuru disregarding Hoima-Tanga route as regional? Is that diplomatically correct as to say so? or bad loser mentality is haunting him?
It would be regional once the Hoima - Juba oil pipeline or rather Juba(south Sudan) - Hoima - Tanga pipiline is incorporated.
