Am sure now the production capacity is above that but it is irrelevant in appraising the efficacy of the indefinite ban on ferrying the unprocessed gold

This new technology takes 6 month to construct

Consumes less electricity and is comfortable with low skilled employees

Culminating from low economy of scales, its commercial viability is so attractive than it can process less than a ton profitably

It is a technology we can afford because it cost much less than conventional copper smelt technology

Rowing back on issue of irrelevance to the ban flows from the fact giant miners have contracts permitting them to ferry unprocessed gold to South Africa where pure gold is tested and taxed by TRA and ministry of minerals

One cannot conceivably argue we ought to delay the unprocessed gold till such cuperex technology is installed

While construction period is six month but putting the whole package may take three yo five years

So the ban was knee jerk decision and is bound to attract hefty fines

Rescinding this ban is the right thing to do while we create the right environment for investors in low cost but high technology in gold processing

Until then let us continue harvesting whatever little tax revenue the mining conglomerates are mercifully ready to part with

It is a strategy and by no means a tactic to stand up against cowboy miners empowered by these grossly lopsided mining contracts

We need to be careful which battles we pick to fight and which ones we need not

Ironically, everything we stand for seems awkwardly hinged to it!

We used to be good in planning but poor implementors but now we seem have lost the plot of the former too!
