Why Magufuli has a shot on wooing Uganda to join his SGR

Which Kenya? The one that lost a close to US $ 4 bln pipeline project to lazy LCD Tanzania n one that fails to get neither South Sudan nor Uganda onboard for her medieval cum stoneage white elephant SGR project that costs her economy the whole arm n leg [emoji23] [emoji115] !

BTW is there anything that Kenya stand alone as a country has done it right? In comparison to Uhuru's globetrotting, Magufuli has done only 2 trips to Uganda, he has a pipeline project n now a Port Bell-Mwanza cargo route in his bag to the central corridor.

Haha as expected. These days it doesn't take 3 or 4 conversations with a tanzania about competition b4 a tz using the pipeline as a defence.
You took a pipeline project from us and suddenly all of you have created the illusion that you can beat Kenya at this game of thrones... The loss of the pipeline was Total's doing not Tz,

Uganda and Sudan have much in common, culturally, physically (bigger border) historically...their cities are also close to Ug than Kenyan cities... They have people to people relation and a big informal trade routes compaited to Kenya,

But on official trade (the ones that governments collect tax on) Kenya was doing better than Uganda in trading with SS untill recently, this is despite the fact that Kenya doesn't even have a direct road link with SS, our trade and their imports from Kenya go through Uganda,

Now with this new road connecting with the new port in Lamu, the road will have minimal traffic compared to other roads currently being used, That would mean S.S imports will virtually be a few ours away from the port instead of days...

Uganda can involve itself in the business of 'controlling' SS all she wants, but watch this space, in a few year Kenya will take back the reins of being the largest formal trading partner with SS

Or u want to argue on KQ that is minting losses day n night n will even mint more by next year when Qatari n the Emirates finalize a deal to build a 2 mln+ passenger terminal the only left facility at Mwanza International Airport to serve as a hub to great lakes region countries.

How do u sort out Al Shaabab? And a port in disputed territorial waters? What if Somalia wins the case at the International court? Won't Kenya be forced to pay a fee to any ship plying to Lamu as will be violating Somalia's territorial economic zone? Sorry but Kenya is really screwed up! Reason being lack of planning n deliberated poor planning in disguise of being aggressive.

Hehe, that wont kill KQ, both airlines (KQ and M.east carriers fly to Nairobi and also to Tz, so they would have killed KQ long time ago if we were to think that way)
If your statement is true then the only company dying will be your innocent virgin in the name of ATCL, I mean who would bother using ATCL if his majesty's King Emirate will be flying them to any regional country in the great lakes through their new hub. Even a typical Tanzanian with bother using ATCL if he can use a luxury Qatar airways to connect from Mwanza to any destination in the great lakes or inyernationally

We have been through worse odds and came out on top of the region, Next!

We have been through worse odds and came out on top of the region, Next!
Usidanganye, Kenya haijawahi kufika hapa ilipo hivi sasa.

Ours isn't suffering from a debt worthing US$ 1 bln! And u would be stupid to think someone in Eastern Congo will bypass Mwanza to Nairobi on his/her quest to fly overseas!

n after Germany's Kfz gave

Kfz= Kraftfahrzeug, =Car

Hiyo paragraphy yenye maandishi Germany's Kfz gave them funds, irudie tena taratibu .Gari gani ya ujerumani imetoa fedha Volkswagen,Benz,Opel au MAN?
Je gari inaweza toa funds ? Au ni Germany Kfz Manufacturer?

IN SUMMARY

Uganda has borrowed $48 million from two German banks to construct an inland port at Bukasa on the shores of Lake Victoria, in a move that is aimed at widening the database of non-concessional lenders.AKA Bank and Commerzbank AG are the two German banks that have lent Uganda the money to construct Bukasa port. But Dr Fred Muhumuza, an economist and former advisor to the Ministry of Finance said Bukasa is not an economically viable port as it is reportedly shallow, and will require a lot of dredging, before it can be used by big modern ships.

Uganda has borrowed $48 million from two German banks to construct an inland port at Bukasa on the shores of Lake Victoria, in a move that is aimed at widening the database of non-concessional lenders.

Over the past eight years, Uganda has invested heavily in infrastructure and the increasing cost and number of projects has caused the country to look beyond concessional lenders like the World Bank, African Development Bank and Western governments to China, which had become a popular option.

But reports of Chinese reluctance appear to have forced Uganda to look at other institutions that can provide funding for infrastructure. These include the German banks which are now showing interest in lending more to Uganda.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of the Bukasa port loan agreement, Doris Icke, the senior vice president for European Export and Trade Bank (AKA Bank) said the new deal represented an opportunity for Uganda to access funding for other projects in future. AKA Bank and Commerzbank AG are the two German banks that have lent Uganda the money to construct Bukasa port.

The loan will be paid back within 15 years, at an interest rate of the Eurobond average rate plus 1.8 per cent. At the moment, this translates into an interest rate of 2 per cent, per annum. Uganda will provide $8.5 million in counterpart funding to make a total project cost of $56.4 million.

“The project, which is part of the Central Corridor Development Programme aims to secure an alternative way of providing efficient transport systems between Uganda and the world markets,” said Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, during the signing ceremony of the loan agreement.

But Dr Fred Muhumuza, an economist and former advisor to the Ministry of Finance said Bukasa is not an economically viable port as it is reportedly shallow, and will require a lot of dredging, before it can be used by big modern ships.

This will increase the cost of construction, yet it is not a strategic port since Uganda exports and imports less through Dar es Salaam — about 80 per cent of Uganda’s international trade goes through Mombasa port.

Having borrowed at least $3.3 billion in non-concessional financing from China Exim bank for infrastructure project but some experts including some of the lenders, suggest that Uganda needs to slow down debt acquisition.

Sources that attended meetings to negotiate financing for the standard gauge railway-another China funded project, say that there are jitters over Uganda’s capacity to back pay this money.

As a result, the Chinese told Ugandan representatives negotiating financing for the Malaba-Kampala section of the Standard Gauge railway that the country should look at options to reduce cost from the current $2 billion.

The hub I was talking about in that reply was the supposedly new hub of Mwanza, if Qatar n Emirates will build their own terminal they would want to use it exclusively.. Therefore only Qatar n Emirates will be having a 'hub' in mwanza, other international airlines will be business as usual,

So the only airline that is bound to suffer more is a young tanzanian atcl trying to make it like when experienced superstars like Emirates live in the neighborhood, anywhere they go people want a selfy with them.
KQ is making loss but the number of passengers being carried through KQ have been increasing over the years to 4 million plus perssengers

Ohk so u r sure only Qatar Airways n Emirates, how about Fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines, KLM, Omanair, Edelweiss, Mango, Condor, ET n many other that are already flying to other airports aside Dar? BTW have u realized I meant Qatari n the Emirates governments?

Up to 1969, Kenya had its worst drought ever recorded in igs history, the drought lasted 12 years! The country lost 70% of all its cattles. With the norther sides of kenya from Isiolo upwards loosing as much as 85% of all animals.

In 1999-2000 we had another drought so bad to a point that when it was over animals had to be bought from somewhere else and given to herders to start over.

While all this was happening, we were having a fight of our lives for multiparty democracy with violence worse than anything you have seen.

In 1976, we had no relations with Uganda because of idi amin, by '77 EAC broke off and we lost all our relations with neighbouring countries, Sudan was still recentfull about ilemi triangle, Somalia was in cold war mode with Kenya over her territory.

In the 90's up to early 2000s the anglo leasing scandle crippled the Kenyan economy, the government became chnically broke!

Oh and I almost forgot, in early 90's we had worse political violence than the one experienced in 2007, and that violent streek continued till 2000.

So kama we mototo uliejua ku google hivi majuzi unafikiri kenya haijawahi ua hali mbaya zaidi, think again!

In 1984 Tanzania GDP was bigger than Kenya and some years back!
