They was boys, the tightest of them. Now they’re foes, y'all know the story. It just hit me other day that no one really survives a break-up with the man, they just fall off while he takes off. Allow me to walk you briefly.
Jaz-O
Jaz was Jay's OG. Peep the picture above, Jay used to rock Jaz’s chains and what not. It is believed that it's Jaz who put Jay on first, when nobody else believed in him. Their relationship didn’t last. Word is, when Jay got with Dame, they offered Jaz a deal he wasn't happy with and they went different routes with Jaz a sore soul. Lifestory cut short, Jay is still making history, while Jaz is history.
Dame Dash and Kareem Biggs.
They was the awesome threesome with these 3 fellas. With Jay the commodity, Dame the business head, and K-biggie….well whatever the hell he was doing, just know they ran and roc'd sh!t together. Jay would probably have quit rap and go back to slanging if it wasn't for those 2, Dame mostly. This perfect marriage didn’t last longer, they went their different ways, and it's never been the same again. Dame lost all(?) his juice, and Biggs is still there fighting the temptations to sell his Reasonable Doubt rights to Jay.
I heard motherfcukers saying they made Hov, Made Hov say "OK so, make another Hov"
/ Niggaz wasn't playing they day role, So we parted ways like Ben and J-Lo /
Punk Master Flex and Hot 97.
This too was one of the best marriages in the game. Flex and Co were at the top, and with the hottest rapper in the game, they used each other to reach greater heights. Hot 97 had exclusives to everything Jay and his team had going on. Things took quite a turn when Hot 97 ‘got greedy’ and gave Nas 'airtime' at the height of Hov vs Nas. Flex & Co thought they no longer needed Jay, and they publicly said so. Fast forward a few minutes later, they lost their juice as the hottest radio to their main rivals Power 105.1, with Flex the sore soul mad at every other soul.
Def Jam.
I took a pay-cut to become an exec, so the next muhfcuker can earn his pay check /
Jay signed to become Def Jam’s president in the 00’s. It was another perfect marriage for both parties, as Jay was the hottest dude with The Island the hottest label. It didn’t last long either, as Jay dumped the label and was forced to pay millions to settle the divorce. Both are still climbing albeit different ways, with Jay headed up.
I can't quite put my hand on it, but it seems Jay-Z has some extra ordinary juice that you can't even bet against him and make it. Even ones who once had some misunderstandings with him kinda fell off, just look at Nas, Irv, DMX, Un, Fat Joe, Dipset, Birdman, Lil Wayne, you name them.
With that said, I sincerely hope Ye defy the odds. He's one of favorite rappers( when he decides to really rap) out there.
One of my favorite joints, with one of Ye's nicest verses.
