American singer and music producer, Wyclef Jean, has been shot in the Haitian capital, Port au Prince, after campaigning for a presidential candidate Michel Martelly.
The polls had opened for a presidential run-off on the Caribbean island.
Jean, who once considered running for the presidency himself, has been taken to hospital where he is said to be stable.
Following last year's tragic earthquake, the hip-hop singer declared he would stand for president.
After being told he was ineligible, he said he would back Michel Martelly.
Haiti's 4.7 million voters have been chosing between the entertainer and singer Martelly, 50, and former first lady Mirlande Manigat, 70, a law professor.
The first round vote in became tangled after fraud allegations were made.
