Online video viewing channel YouTube has added a Trending Chart listing on its application in addition to top songs, artistes and videos in the latest upgrade of the app.

The charts being rolled out in 44 countries including Kenya, the US, Japan, Germany, Brazil and the UK will feature popular and rising trends locally and globally based on the number of views on the platform.

“The new Trending Chart is updated multiple times a day to provide a unique, real time view of the hottest new music fans are enjoying,” said Chris Clark, Product Manager, YouTube Music in a post. The platform, according to The State of the Internet 2017 report, has eight million monthly Kenyan users.

The Top Songs chart highlights the number of views of a song

It will be updated weekly and is calculated by combining all official versions of a song (including the official music video, song used in user generated content and lyrics).

The chart reflects how users are consuming music on the platform and the multiple ways artistes are using YouTube to share their music.

The Top Artists chart will highlight the most popular artists on YouTube, based on the total views of their entire discography — official music videos, song user generated content, live performances, remixes, lyric videos, album tracks, and collaborations.

YouTube is a key platform for local artistes who rely on the channel to launch new music and get airplay while keeping track of how well it is received by the market.

Local band Sauti Sol has been known for releasing new music first on the platform, gathering millions of views within days.

Showbiz and entertainment industry in Tz is equal to the rest of EAC combined. Thats what matters
Actually it's like conspiracy trying to beat the industry on unfair practice. Tanzanian musicians should complain how on earth entertainment giant Tanzania is left out! Who listens to Kenyan music?Kenyan artists should learn basic swahili first, as they miserably failed at Queen's language songs.

Hehehe! I remember there was a time CNN and other international medias when covering any Tanzania news, would always add 'A country bordering Kenya in the South'..... That way anyone listening or watching would immediately know where on earth Bongoland is.

Mention one artist from Kenya the level of Jaydee, Vanessa Mdee, Christian Bella, Aslay or even Nandi n the whole WCB crew!

Tz wametushinda kwa secular songs, why lie... in terms of real singing.

Lakini ikija kwa revenue ya mziki, Kenya na nyimbo zake inatengeneza mihela kuliko tz

Aaa wapi..endeleeni kujilazimisha kuwa kwenye youtube trending! Pata picha Diamond awekwe Trending! Be music or movies, as Kenyans, u lack identity my freind!

It will be so hard to break through having no good entertainment media houses! Imagine u have been having live broadcast before us but funny enough ITV was the first media house to air clips of swahili music i.e. Bongoflava likes of Diplomats that was 1990s.

The same is youtube, due to competition the charges for Internet is lower in Tanzania than in Kenya n compiled with earlier coverage of fiber optics more young people in Tanzania r present n felt on social media than in Kenya.

Then why do they sing themselves hoarse when they can't make money out of it!?

Any of the above crooners who haven't enjoyed publicity courtesy of Kenya!?
Not only in Kenya but the whole of Africa! They market themselves n their music sell. BTW Diamond is slowly breaking global scene. Only scandals that r creeping towards him r to dent his recent attempt.

Youtube hulipa wasanii kulingana na adverts zilizo angaliwa na viewers for atleast 3 sec. Kenya advdrtisment industry is more established and more aggressive due to high competition, thus unakuta for few views an artist gets paid more when someone from kenya watches than when another from tz watches same.
Same thing happens when local music is played on local tv or radio...in Tz or Ke...in Kenya they get paid more per airview....
I'm not sure how much they get paid for live performances but considering lots of Tz artists come to kenya to perfom even in small towns like Malindi, the money must bemore than what they get back home...

Tz Entertainment and media industry is 1/4 a quater of Kenya's!

Kenya
The E&M industry was worth US$2.1 billion in 2016, up 13.6% on 2015. Revenue is forecast to grow at an 8.5% CAGR over the next five years, hitting the US$3 billion mark in 2020, and totaling US$3.2 billion in 2021. Internet access is the most established industry within the Kenyan market, boasting the largest revenues and one of the highest growth rates to 2021.

Ghana
Ghana’s E&M industry is beginning to gear up. In 2012, total revenue was just at US$214 million, but four consecutive years of year-on-year growth above 25% have led it to revenues of US$685 million in 2016. This is forecast to more than double over the next five years, with revenues of U$1 billion being surpassed in 2019 and a total of US$1.5 billion forecast for 2021, thanks to a 16.5% CAGR.

Tanzania
Tanzania’s total E&M revenue stood at US$504 million in 2016, but is set to more than double to US$1.1 billion in 2021, a 17.2% CAGR over the coming five years. The symbolic crossing of the US$1 billion mark is set to occur in 2021. This is significant growth from 2012 where the industry stood at just US$175 million.

I bet by now you haven't internalized Kenyans 'psych! Tz can sing in any flavor under the sun but Kenyans will milk every penny out for publicity and marketing! We can't all be singing! Who will strategies and monetize that bongo flavor if not a Kenyan?

Wacha ujinga hamna artist Kenya anaweza ku-compete na hao artists niliowataja! Afterall hamna companies in Kenya zinatangaza Youtube. Mjipange.

Evidence? Wakati the likes of Safaricom wana-launch their products na Tanzanian artists. Ur artists need to pull up their sox n be creative. Muache ujinga wa kubishana wakati mnaelewa Ukweli. Soon Safaricom wataanza kumlipa Diamond advert fees as his Wasafi TV/Radio will have more viewers n listeners. Endelea ku-brag marketing crown.

My point is,behind their footprints to continental or global stardom are Kenyan strategists and spring board jolt from Kenyan media publicity!

Simple, Safaricom the Kenyan corporate giant gives those Tz crooners a lifetime opportunity of publicity! That's the Kenyan footprints I'm talking about.
