A total of 4,655 learners with special education needs are expected to sit this year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) deploying 1,544 support personnel to facilitate their participation.
The candidates include learners who are blind, deaf, have low vision or dyslexia, as well as those with severe physical impairments that affect their ability to read and write.
UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule Musamba said the Board had made special arrangements to support the candidates, including braille question papers and answer sheets for blind learners, large-print papers for those with low vision, and sign language interpreters for deaf candidates.
Musamba urged scouts and invigilators to remain attentive to the learners’ needs and cooperate with the support personnel deployed to assist them.
