Poison found in Mutula Kilonzo, Govt refuses to send samples to UK

Sources including Kenya Televison Network (KTN ) have revealed that traces of poison were found on Mutula Kilonzo's liver during the autopsy.

Family sources and a doctor involved in the investigations also said that tests for a sophisticated poison, Polonium 210 are being conducted.

The station also announced in a news bulletin that the government team that was involved in the autopsy has refused to send his body samples to the UK for analysis.

A team of seven pathologists among them a Briton who was hired to perform the autopsy took 52 samples for an independent analysis but the government pathologists have withheld them.(Read: What pathologists said after Mutula Kilonzo postmortem)

"No sample will be taken out of the country as all the samples collected can be analysed locally," Government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

Dr Oduor had been accused of deliberately omitting critical medical notes during the Saitoti investigations after the former Internal Security Minister and his deputy Orwa Ojode along with two pilots died in a helicopter crash around the Ngong forest on June 10, 2012.

The medical notes that Dr Oduol ordered his juniors to withhold would have clearly revealed traces of poisoning on the bodies of the deceased. Dr Oduol's juniors revealed that the bodies contained a pink discoloration which is normally associated with the presence of a poisonous gas.

Polonium 210 is a deadly radiation poison and it is the same poison that was used used to kill Alexander Litvinenk, a KGB agent-turned-Kremlin critic in London in 2006.

Traces of the poison was also on the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's clothes he is said to have worn before his death.

Reports received after Mutula Kilonzo's death stated that the Senator had vomited on his sink earlier on in the fateful night. The police had also indicated that investigations were looking into the poison theory and the investigations were centered on food samples around the Senator's home. Either Uhuru Kenyatta is sleeping on the switch or he is deeply involved in this mess!...You can bet your horses this information is reaching The Hague and its not looking good for an indicted suspect.

I am sure by now AGWAMBO must have read the cue!!! The list of people to be eliminated must be very long.

Uhuruto wameshaanza kazi.

Dr. Job stop commenting on mutula, you are and were not in his actions
that day, since the cause of death is unintelligently unclear, why not wait
for the results of the 52 samples. People are quick to conclude that this
was an assasination, but according to events, it would resemble the
Micheal jackson death. killed by a strong Overdose!

Did somebody sneak into his bedroom and spray poison in the room which he then inhaled? His bedroom door was not locked from the inside on this occasion contrary to the standard norm. Or was the poison administered through food/drink?

If the man went to the sink to vomit severally before going to bed then
there are things which are unclear as to whether he was taking any
medication, what type, and how long. many have said he was
healthy why wouldn't he have retained
enough strengh to call for help. whatever you are saying about room
poisoning is laughable because reports and news indicate that he individually
locked himself in the room. The man died a peaceful death and did not struggle
which does not indicate poisoning
leta mengine.

Mbona mnakwenda mbali hivi hamjasikia mtoto wake kuna njemba ilitaka kubeba baba hataki? sasa je huyo hawezi kuhusika?????

Newspapers in Kenya had indicated that Mr Mutula Kilonzo had a night visitor before he died. The Story by Nation Newspapers reports that: Detectives investigating the death of Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo are exploring the presence of a mysterious visitor at his Maanzoni home when he died last Saturday.

The visitor is said to have been questioned by detectives but police have deepened the mystery because they have maintained silence on the details emerging from the investigation into the death of the maverick politician.

Investigators believe the guest could provide critical information on the last moments of the Senator whose death has puzzled the country.

Multiple sources — who cannot be named because they are not allowed to speak on behalf of the family — say that the preliminary findings from the postmortem examination were unlikely to change significantly when the final report is prepared.

And, going by the preliminary findings, police have no reason to detain any of those who were at Mr Kilonzo’s house, unless further investigations raise a different line of investigation.

Besides the mysterious visitor, police have questioned the farm manager, a cook, a supervisor and the housekeeper and recorded their statements.

An officer privy to the investigations told the Sunday Nation that the statements by some of Mr Kilonzo’s employees are not consistent. Two of the employees have written that there was a guest at the house while others did not mention the visitor.

Another officer said the postmortem examination findings did not leave any room for conjecture in establishing the cause of death, but it had been agreed that the decision to release the report should be left to the family.

The postmortem examination was conducted by seven doctors led by chief government pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.

British pathologist Calder Ian Maddison flew to Kenya at the family’s request and took part in the examination.

Further reports have showed that an unlabelled bottle containing pills was among samples taken from Mr Kilonzo’s bedroom by detectives after the death was reported.

The Senator’s body was found tucked in bed with foam in the mouth. There were also indications that the lawyer had vomited and samples were collected for analysis.

Besides the pathologists, detectives have engaged experts at the Government Chemist to examine the pills and other samples.

Fresh reports emerged Saturday that seemed to contradict earlier information that Mr Kilonzo had not been seen alive on April 27, until he was discovered dead at around 11am.

According to the new reports, the Senator had woken up early and spent about 30 minutes at the swimming pool within the compound of his palatial home.

At that time, the visitor was in the house.

Police also reviewed video footage captured by CCTV cameras mounted around Mr Kilonzo’s home.

Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro said: “The doctors are holding the key to this investigation. You start with learning the cause of death from the doctors before you decide whether to pursue it further or end it. It could be different if it was a matter of an attack where injuries are visible.”
