You're off the mark dude! Mobile money is a just a service. What other product derivative that can be used on that service platform is what we are talking about.
As for coding and other infotech ,ask yourself why Google,Oracle,IBM,GE et al are crowding in Nairobi and not in Dar where you were first in network inter-operational switch!

Kenya's tech savvy operatives don't need to reinvent the wheel but can mend the puncture or pad it for smooth ride as they explore something else to invent!
Stop being ignorant, There no software devs stationed in kenya coding for Google,ORCL or any other giant software/Tech company. These Country offices are Just Sales and customer relationship branches. The choice of location in nairobi is because nairobi is far much more developed interms of infrastrucure and services and with a busy airport. The choice of location has nothing to do with availability or lack of software devs proffessionals

There is a massive revolution in technology my friend, and mark you it's not always necessary for a start-up to make fireworks globally, homegrown solutions consumed locally is what matters, it'd be a mistake to attempt to compete against Whatsapp at global arena.

You must take some lessons on how to implement a successful start-up 101, you don't go against the already established global giants, but swim with them, if possible compliments their systems. For instance, I've built corporate system that integrates with API from G Suite with their range of products such as Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar etc, same system integrates with Facebook and other solutions and has seen success in its use.

Take your time to read Kenyan statistics on ICT annual growth, ICT contribution to GDP and so on, numbers don't lie....
Look at this kind of infant like excitement with tech. You must be a coder and not a business analyst. Exited about low level stuff like syntax and nifty code snippets while overlooking the business case for a software project.
When cartels in safcom cloud out small enterprises like domain registrars, PRSPS( ringtones, content downloads, etc), Money Trasnfer,Mobile money loans etc, it does not matter if you have coding skills..they are useless if you cant make money.
Its actually absurd that a MNO like safaricom should be allowed to such areas as ecommerce with their masoko product. When will small tech startups go commercial with a cartel cannibalising all their prospects? Safaricom should stick to being an MNO as per their licence. and articles of association

Don't dish your ignorance to others! GE is out developing with locals on how best to intergrate simple health solutions with remote and rural populations from diagnostics to dose managements, Oracle busy trying out homegrown account management solutions to local enterprises, same with others. If all these tech corporates in Nairobi were out to capitalize only on location and infrastructure, they would have set base elsewhere more strategic with even superior facilities.
They're out to tap the rapid uptake of tech products and skilled talent readily available. Those sales offices can't be in non conforming market in all spheres. Kenya just conforms to their scheme of things from talent to consumptio and not to sales tourists you want to reduce them to.

The way you guys are boosting yourselves as the most advanced ICT hub, you'll think there is any world reliance technology had come out of Kenya. hapa unasema you don't go on things which others have already started. Are telling me all those solutions around the world are the only thing the world can rely on? Every thing can be improved or adjust, Kenya your still trying like any one else.

Your Mind is sold out to Jubilee PR. There is no R&D happening in kenya by GE, Google, Oracle or etc. They dont even employ techies in their kenya offices! You will meet Customer relationship, account managers and presale engineers! Why Google Office is in Nairobi Not Dar has nothing to do with availability of coders or software engineers!

Mwanzi1 kwani mobile money ilivumbuliwa na nchi gani? Kama hujui uliza utaambiwa.

Hahaha.

Naomba u-google haya majina mawili SUSIE LONIE, NICK HUGHES.

Inasemekana hao wazungu wawili walicome up with the idea na DFID ya U.K ndio ilitoa pesa. Niliuliza nchi gani ilivumbua. Hio nchi ni Kenya. Mpesa ilianza Kenya, haikuanza Uingereza. Infact hadi sasa Mpesa haiko U.K na pengine haitawahi kufika huko. Mwenye aliinvent sio issue hapa, issue ni mobile money ilianza nchi gani, dunia nzima? U.K ama Kenya?

MPESA is a vodacom innovation, it couldnt work for the UK market since Britain Mostly uses Visa Cards and other plastic money.
Kenya was an experiment with their innovation, luckily the found a huge unbanked population and a Snobnish banking system that required one to maintain a "minimum" balance of upto 20k.

Listen, the inventors were whoever but the testbed also gets the credit because without the testbed there would be no bed to test on. According to you, do you think Kenya's contribution was significant or not at all.

Kenya's Contribution is immense but not in innovation. It is Kenya that "legitimized" mobile money transfer..Nowhere else in the world would any person accept to hold money in a simcard or even accept payment by mobile money. This was akin to "fraud". Accepting Mpesa as payment for goods and services was the key contribution by kenyans, people all over the world gained trust in mobile money..Government propaganda then picked the story, repackaged it and kenya was hailed at the tech capital of the world

Hahaha. You seem to know your stuff. I'll give you credit here. I guess what you've said is true

Sasa unakumbia swali lako mwenyewe ona hapo juu, umeuliza mpesa ilivumbuliwa (invented) wapi? Mimi nikasema UK. Even initial first codes za Mpesa zilifanyika ndani ya ofisi za vodafone London in collaboration with company non as Sagentia.

Yaani kila kitu mizungu imeinvent.

Wameinvest pesa nyingi kwenye science na wanazidi kumwaga pesa huko kila siku.
