Africa is not poor. Africa is a rich continent inhabited by poor people. Once we fix the people problem, everything else will fall into place. In this post, I share what I consider to be the top 10 problems affecting the people ability to fix themselves and subsequently take control of their destiny.

1. The Poverty Porn

Humanitarian organization like UNICEF, Doctors without Borders, and alike have done more damage to Africa than the marginal positive impact they supposedly have had.

In order to raise money for their operations, they have engaged into a "poverty porn" depicting Africa with the most degrading, and humiliating images. African people dignity is not something they cared about. The huge billboard and magazines photos showing Africa at its worst now fill the mind of billions of people around the world, and unfortunately those people can't help but think about Africa only trough those images. (In the same time, those medias won't show the photo of a dead American or English soldier, because it's shocking and doesn't respect human dignity)

The worst consequence of this "free publicity" is the way it has deeply impacted Africans self-perception and self-image.
For example, It's common in France for African immigrants who are having problems with their teenagers to threat them "If you'll continue to behave that way, you'll be sent back to Africa", meaning "We will send you to the hell you have seen on TV or in the Newspaper".

The "Poverty porn" of the NGOs, the humanitarian organizations, and Western medias is the problem number one because it sabotages Africans self-image, weakens their sell-confidence and resolve, and contributed hugely to the hate and racism Africans face all over the world.

it's absoloutely true bt the worst thing is that we depend much on donation thats why they roll us whenever they want

Big up for bringing it up again, while waiting for the remaining long list of Africa problems, it would make sense to suggest/ recommend best ways of getting out of White people`s trap.

1. Africa Media Houses should write, produce and share the best stories of African Problems vs African solutions.
2. Donor dependency syndrome be it NGOs, African Government and people should be shunned by embracing African extended family safety nets from taking care of widows to poorly marginalized orphans

We as African we are the solution for all the problems but waiting for white people and chines to solve our problem the world will come to an end and still Africans are poor, our media should show the beuty of our continent our beautiful cities rather than images of wars that are constant as a sun,

Are they lying by posting humiliating images??THAT IS THE TRUTH GUYS PLS...just accept it,yes i agree they may be heart breaking, brain damaging pics or whatever you may call them but THAT'S THE SHIT THAT IS REALLY HAPPENING,what do u want them to report??
Accepting the truth is a step towards getting something better...
For instance, what do u expect from Somalia, congo,CAR,and by then the genocide in Rwanda??cover ups that nothing happened ?that it's all peaceful over here?NOOO,U SAY WHATEVER THAT IS GOING ON,whites report all incidences happening why not us,
that's Africa,as long as we know (they know too actually, very well) that violence and diseases aren't all over the place,it's a matter of keeping on with helping out areas with crisis ,

The basic thing is 'changing our perceptions that WE CAN DO IT,JUST LIKE THEM,RATHER BETTER THAN THEM...
Never wait for anyone or a white man to come liberate your thoughts....

I disagree with what you have written here.

For starters, I would like to know, what's the image of Africa in your vision? How many successful stories are there to tell? Mind you, I am not saying there aren't any.

Secondly, donations can be used to benefit Africans but that's not happening because of corruption and such ills. Surprisingly, it's mostly Africans who are misusing the funds. Here, who is to blame?

It is an insult to say, i quote, "..like UNICEF, Doctors without Borders, and alike have done more damage to Africa than the marginal positive impact they supposedly have had." Lives have been saved by these institutions. Are you to deny that?

Visit any refugee camp near you. You would be surprised it is these institutions helping Africans. Where is the love among Africans? Where are our governments?

Visit hospitals where most of the donors' funds are being used in providing medicine at affordable prices. Even though one could argue that it is the pharmaceutical companies making profits in return. But overall, lives are being saved.

I am not saying Africans cannot run hospitals, schools etc. I am saying we have our priorities "elsewhere".

And why do we look at things in black and white? Aren't we all human? There could be a problem with our thinking, that everything must be black and white. If a white person helps, then there is something fishy or a trap behind.. But if it's a fellow African then it's all good. This kind of thinking is wrong.

Africa is not poor. Africa is a rich continent inhabited by poor people.

This makes Africa a continent of poor people. Why is Africa rich and her people poor? Either Africa is cursed or her people are highly uneducated. I go with the later.

Western medias is the problem number one because it sabotages Africans self-image, weakens their sell-confidence and resolve, and contributed hugely to the hate and racism Africans face all over the world.

Africans need to look into the mirror first, problem number one is the image they see in the mirror.

We should invest in our brains. Education. That is the only resource we should ask for.

We should read, study and learn as much as we can. This is not happening, our learning institutions are collapsing. We know so and we are doing nothing about it.

Education is not our priority.

The system should be blamed! Then we as African, we need to liberate our mind....
