If applying sheet and frame is aluminium, use screws to fasten.It will perform way better with solid material compared to mesh..
You can use 0.8 to 1mm aluminium plate... But if you cannot get a plate just mesh it.. the thickness must be very low for easy flexibility and curving but strong enough for durability.
You can rivet the plate but a quick fix would be to drill small holes on the plate then tie it to the frame using some kind of binding wire..
