[h=2]Airtel and TRA Launch Mobile Tax Payments[/h]
Tax payers will no longer have to wait on long queues or visit the taxman’s office to pay their taxes
Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and Airtel Tanzania Network e have finalised the contract to enable taxpayers in the country to pay their taxes via their mobile phones. The mobile tax payment scheme will start on Monday, 29[SUP]th[/SUP] October 2012.

The mobile tax payment scheme aims to provide assistance to the Tanzanian government to increase tax collections domestically. The finance sector has given assurance to mobile users that the new system is safe and effective to use on all their tax payment transactions.
Tax payers who use the new mobile tax payment system will receive an acknowledgement receipt via SMS message for any transaction made. Payers can also opt to collect their receipts from any TRA office. This service is accessible 24 hours a day to any Airtel subscriber. It entitles Airtel subscribers to send tax payments to the correct TRA system.
The new system is available to individual tax payers as well as small and medium sized businesses. According to TRA Finance Director, Salehe Mshoro, the agreement covers property and income taxes payment. TRA hopes to cover other forms of taxes in the future.
