Ambassador Inaugurates Jitegemee Secondary School

The school recently received $130,000 in improvements from the U.S. government, including two new classrooms and a 60,000-liter water storage tank.
The refurbishment and additional construction of this school is the result of our strong partnership between the United States and the Tanzanian Ministries of National Defense and Education. The completion of this construction represents a commitment by the American people toward the strengthening of education in Dar es Salaam.
The renovation project included a new two-room classroom, construction of a roof, ceiling, and installation of electrical wiring, doors and windows. The project included a concrete platform capable of supporting four 15,000 liter water storage tanks including pipes and fittings to connect the tanks to the existing electric pump.
This assistance to Dar es Salaam school children comes from the American people and is part of on-going U.S. direct and multilateral assistance to Tanzania of more than 750 billion Tanzanian shillings this past fiscal year (2008). This assistance reflects America's dedication to improving the lives of Tanzanians and a genuine concern for the health, education, and future of Tanzanias youth. The United States is committed to working with Tanzania to ensure access to quality education and a better tomorrow for all Tanzanians.
The personnel of CJTF-HOA focus on military-to-military training, civil-military operations, and engagement to fulfill their mission. They provide short-term assistance by providing clean water, functional schools, improved roadways and improved medical facilities. Long-term goals include working with partner nations to improve national security. Regional stability is built through capacity-building operations such as civil affairs and military-to-military training; engineering and humanitarian support; medical, dental and veterinarian civil action programs; security training for border and coastal areas; and maritime training with host nations.
