Chinese billionaire Jack Ma on Monday toured Maasai Mara National Reserve after a trip in Tanzania..

He was accompanied by Tourism CS Najib Balala and UNCTAD secretary general Mukhisa Kituyi.

Ma took his first trip to Africa with 30 Chinese billionaires. He addressed the business community and students at the University of Nairobi last Thursday.

The founder and executive chairman of online retail giant Alibaba seeks to empower youths through trade and innovation.

Ma said Kenya can create more opportunities for trade through e-commerce and grabbing opportunities under third Internet revolution.

He also discussed youth empowerment through entrepreneurship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Forbes, Jack is worth an estimated $29 billion and this includes his 7.8 per centstake in the Alibaba Group — China's answer to Amazon — and close to 50 per cent stake in the payment-processing service, Alipay.

Although Alibaba and Ma aren't household names outside China, it's worth noting that Alibaba is worth more than Facebook and processes goods more than eBay and Amazon combined.

MY TAKE

A serious Billionaire can not visit Masai mara n leave behind the main dealers the Serengeti!

Can Kenyans tell us if is to market the two parks which one will Mr Ma pick?

Serengeti is like having a beautiful, clean toilet inside a ugly, rat infested house.
That's why even the so called billionaires often fly from Wilson Airport in Nairobi into Serengeti.
Kenya offers the full package. Beautiful roads, beautiful beaches, beautiful culture, functioning air transport, proper connectivity to JKIA from every major airport in the world, world class hotels in all towns/cities (Not just tented camps inside the parks), a city you can actually explore (Nairobi), lots of activities liked by tourists' like bungee jumping, sky diving etc. An English speaking population, a center for international business (lots of expats working in Nairobi), and more importantly, we don't overcharge tourists like Tanzania.

There is a reason why people visiting Tanzania are out within a few days. In Kenya, many tourists often extend their visits, return frequently or move in permanently. This is especially true for the not very wealthy ones.

And before you start talking about tourism revenue, you have to understand that what is measured is actually fees that go to government and local authorities plus other taxes. Kenya charges less gate charges, which may explain why Tanzania collects more.
But the overall contribution of tourism is greater in Kenya than in Tanzania. Tourists bring in over $5 billion per year, in terms of hotel fees, airline fees, taxi, curios etc. This I guess was a 2013 estimate.
More Kenyans are employed in the tourism and hospitality sector than Tanzanians.

I just wonder if the business conference was in Tanzania instead of Kenya. Kama simple tourism visit ndo inaleta kelele hivi.

Ati watersports...so u mean Kenya has more better developed watersports centers than Zanzibar? Idiot stop day dreaming! ati u offer good roads last time I checked ur road to Masai mara was in a pathetic shape! BTW the Serengeti has more classy lodges than Masai mara.

The day Kenya gets $5bln in revenues Tanzania will get 3 times the amount. FYI it is the first time Kenya has received billionaires of Ma caliber!
