Apple acquired global rights for 'The Elephant Queen', a documentary shot entirely in Kenya.
The film was acquired by Apple’s worldwide video division led by Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht as the tech behemoth makes a move into mass video content.
It is among the first feature films to be acquired by Apple which has previously been snapping up television shows.
The Elephant Queen (TEQ) follows a matriarch elephant which, when faced with a drought, has to decide whether to stay at the watering hole her family knows as home or journey in search for food.
The risk of going into the badlands is that the younger elephants might not make it.
The documentary portrays striking similarities between humans and elephants while telling a story.
It includes narration by Oscar-nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor who starred alongside Kenya's Lupita Nyong'oin 12 years a slave.
TEQ was screened in September at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Kenya Film Commission boss Chris Foot voiced support for the film as he congratulated all Kenyans who worked on it.
"The UK premier of The Elephant Queen Moving, profound & absolutely delightful.
"1st full feature film bought by Apple. Shot entirely in Kenya. Proud of all Kenyans who worked on this incredible film. Can't wait 2 premier it in Kenya," he tweeted.
