  • SAVED BY GALLESE! It was the Manchester City man who stepped up to take the set-piece himself, and he curled a challenging effort towards the far side, but the keeper, at full stretch, pushed it away!
  • 12'
Aguero is fouled about 25 yards from goal. Now then, this could be very interesting for Argentina...
  • 10'
GOOD FLICK! Peru win a corner, which Trauco delivers to the near post. Tapia arrives at pace, and glances a header tantalisingly across the face of goal, with no one else getting a vital touch!
  • 7'
Danger here for Peru as Aguero peels off towards the right-hand side, but Rodriguez gets his body in front of the Manchester City man and manages to shepherd the ball out for a goal-kick.
  • 5'
Aggressive start to this one from the home side, who are pressing high up the pitch to disrupt the Argentine attack. However, they seem to have no plan of their own once in possession.
  • 3'
Trauco scampers forward on an early Peru attack and, perhaps feeling that Romero still had part of his mind in the dressing room, decides to let fly, but he cuts that effort horribly wide of the mark.
  • 1'
    And off we go!
  • Without Lionel Messi, Edgardo Bauza has chosen Gonzalo Higuain to lead the line, with Sergio Aguero playing as a No. 10. Paulo Dybala and Angel di Maria round out the attacking quarter on the flanks, while Everton's Ramiro Funes Mori lines up at the back.
  • Jose Paolo Guerrero leads the line for the home side, with Edison Flores tucking in just behind. Apart from their No. 9, Yoshimar Yotun and Alberto Rodriguez are the two most senior players in the XI, with nearly 120 caps between them.
  • Argentina (4-2-3-1): Romero; Zabaleta, Otamendi, Funes Mori, Rojo; Kranevitter, Mascherano; Dybala, Aguero, Di Maria; Higuain.
  • Peru: (4-2-3-1): Gallese; Corzo, Ramos, Rodriguez, Trauco; Tapia, Yotun; Benavente, Flores, Cueva; Guerrero.
  • Peru's last game was a 2-1 win at home to Ecuador - only their second victory of the qualifying campaign. They're second from bottom with seven points from eight matches, and are already six behind Colombia in fifth - which is the only play-off position.
  • Argentina were forced to fight back from two goals down to record a draw against Venezuela in their last qualifier back in September, ending a run of four straight Conmebol wins. La Albiceleste currently sit in fourth place, level on points with Brazil.
  • Hello and welcome to our live commentary of the CONMEBOL qualifier between Peru and Argentina. The hosts can see themselves slipping away from the qualification places, while the visitors need to keep pressure up at the top of the table. Stick with us for all the action.

  • 24'Another half a chance for Peru, as Guerrero intelligently flicks a pass from Tapia into the path of Benavente, who had made a run down the blindside of the defender, but could not keep his finish on target.
  • 21'Peru are nearly caught with their back four too high up the pitch as Aguero bursts through the centre, but the flag is up on the near side as he moved a fraction of a second too early onto the pass.
  • 19'Peru won't be too concerned with going behind though. They've looked the better side in an attacking sense, and from set-pieces, they will always fancy their chances to get an effort in on goal.
  • 17'Well a lot of the talk pre-match concerning Argentina was how their attack would be structured in the absence of Messi, but it's a defender who makes the breakthrough. Peru are still livid.
  • GOOOL'FUNES MORI DAKIKA YA 16.....15'ARGENTINA TAKE THE LEAD! That hotly contested corner has proved critical against Peru. Aguero attacked the delivery, the hosts failed to clear in time and Funes Mori lashed the loose ball into the corner!
  • 15'First booking of the game goes to Yotun, who looked to be arguing with the referee about the award of a corner to Argentina. His protests only succeed in putting him on shaky ground for the rest of the game.
  • 13'SAVED BY GALLESE! It was the Manchester City man who stepped up to take the set-piece himself, and he c

32'SAVED BY GALLESE AGAIN! Argentina had a free-kick on the very edge of the box, and Di Maria stepped up to strike it, curling a low effort around the wall and towards the near post, but the keeper was there to push it away!

30'As he tends to do, Guerrero sticks to his defender like glue before manufacturing space out of nowhere. Otamendi is the sucker this time, and trips up the striker, getting booked in the process.

28'Peru continue to win all the little 50-50's in midfield, with Argentina ruffled by their tenacious approach. We haven't seen much from the likes of Dybala in attack for la Albiceleste so far.

26'Argentina aren't accomplishing much on the ball. They look more concerned with waiting for a Peru mistake, before using their considerable speed on the break to

    • So only one goal in this at the break, and it came from an unlikely source. Everton defender Funes Mori lashed in the opener after Peru failed to adequately deal with a corner. It's been a game of few chances, and there's still all to play for in the second half. Stay tuned.
    • 45+1'
The delivery is wasted, and Aguero tries to chase down a long clear-out as the half-time whistle goes.
    • 45'
Zabaleta is pulled up for a handball after Flores whacked a cross into his arm. What was weird was that it was his right arm which was outstretched, but the ball hit his left. Regardless, dangerous free-kick incoming.
    • 43'
Not long left in the first half now as Guerrero is called for an offside when chasing down a long punt out of the back. Both coaches will surely want to make some adjustments at the break to loosen things up from open play.
    • 41'
From a corner, Peru win the initial header yet again, but fail to get it on target. Surprising that both teams can be so accomplished in the air when attacking set-pieces, but so haphazard when defending them.
    • 39'
Peru threaten down at the other end with some aerial bombardment of their own. Cueva flicks a header back into the six-yard area, but the defence is there to clear for a corner before Guerrero can pounce.
    • 37'
Argentina win a corner, and as they've tended to do in this game, manage to get a shot away, but Otamendi's header is swallowed by Gallese. Needed more power to beat the keeper from there.
    • 35'
Argentina's greatest threat in this game by far has been from set pieces. It amazes me that world class names like Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria and Dybala can't manage to create something from open play.

    • 50'
VITAL BLOCK! Peru attack with pace again, and Cueva orchestrates a move down the left. A low cross finds its way to Flores on the far side, but his shot was touched around the post by the Man Utd man!
    • 48'
WIDE OF THE MARK! Tapia has possession about 30 yards from goal and Argentina are slow to close him down. He accepts the invitation to advance and have a go, but he can't test Romero!
    • 46'
Benavente has been withdrawn for Da Silva.
    • 46'
      Here we go again.

    • 66'
Peru know now that every tine they pump the ball forward, they have an outlet in Guerrero who can bring down even the most wayward of punts. Los Incas have stepped up another level in the second half.
    • 64'
There was a bit of bouncy with the ball on the edge of the Peru penalty area, and Rojo decides to go for the spectacular with a full-on volley, but it's right down the throat of Gallese.
    • 62'
JUST WIDE OF THE MARK! Flores charges forward on the break and Peru have a numerical advantage. He slips a ball down the blindside of Otamendi, where Cueva arrives to lash an effort the wrong side of the post.
    • 60'
Given the way that the second half has gone, you had to say that it was coming. Argentina have created nothing, and were reliant on increasingly desperate plays in defence to keep out the opposition. No longer!
    • 58'
Edison Flores will take a seat for Raul Rudiaz.
    • 58'
Lovely ball by Trauco into space on the far side.
    • 58'
Gol -dakika ya 58' PERU HAVE TIED IT UP! Who else but Guerrero? The captain comes up with the goods, and it was a goal oh-so-typical of him! He peels away from Funes Mori to latch onto a long ball, keeps his balance against the challenge and finishes clinically!
    • 56'
ANOTHER BIG BLOCK! Peru overload down the centre, which leaves Flores as the free man on the right-hand side of the penalty area. He's about to hammer one on goal but a defender gets his body in the way!
    • 54'
Argentina haven't been able to keep the ball in the Peruvian half for more than a handful of passes and every time they advance, it only leaves space at the back for the home side to exploit.
    • 52'
Like they did in the opening period, Peru have made a positive start to this match, finding gaps in the Argentina defensive third. However, Funes Mori's goal is still the difference here in Lima.
