Azam TV Launches in Kenya

Azam TV Launches in Kenya

I would welcome any sponsor with some loose change to invest here. What i would like to know however is the localised package of the pay tv before deciding whether its worth my dime.
The contract to broadcast local league however may hit headwinds as kenyan football management is in serious lack of direction; i am hoping they signed the contract with the right guys.
:lol: so FKF are not in charge of the league operation? Azam is entering Zambia and Malawi now before Nigeria and SA! :A S 20:

That very issue is before the courts
we will see but so far Azam TV will start broadcasting live KPL matches from 28th March. If you want to watch Gor Mahia, get yourself Azam TV decoder "Burudani kwa wote" :A S-baby:

There is nothing new here, i have been watching them from supersport and i am sure this deal is headed to the courts, looks like your guys do not know about clean contracts

In Uganda Supersport went to court and lost the case they have to pay compensation to Azam TV plus the cost of proceedings! Lets see how it will turn out this time in Kenyan courts! :yo:

BTW the puzzle lies here

The officials declined to give out a copy of their contract with SuperSport, only reading sections of it during Monday meeting.

Dhuks, Azam TV are now eyeing kenyan Rugby league as they are moneyed than any other media house in EA! did you see the studio they launched valued the cost of the three media houses Nationmedia, Citizen TV and the Standardmedia combined! :A S-baby:

Kenyans welcome tz and other foreign companies to operate here in kenya unlike you guys keep complaining about the presence of kenyan companies over there. But i tell u smthng; if kenyans aren't happy with it or if their services aren't good enough, it will be too bad for them. Kenya is a very competitive market.

Azam Media expands African pay TV offer

MARCH 12, 2015 09.26 EUROPE/LONDON BY ROBERT BRIEL

(On the picture President Kikwete of Tanzania (right) being interviewed by AzamTV's Tido Mhando)

Azam Media, owned by Tanzanian conglomerate Bakhresa Group, is ramping up satellite capacity through a new transponder leased on the powerful Eutelsat 7B satellite.

Complementing capacity used on the copositioned Eutelsat 7A satellite, it will host new services for the rapidly growing AzamTV pay-TV platform.

Launched just 18 months ago, AzamTV counts 200,000 subscribers in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. The new capacity will enable AzamTV to extend its services to Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, South Sudan and Zimbabwe with additional content. Further expansion is planned using the company's state-of-the-art studio complex and headend facility in Dar es Salaam that was inaugurated on 6 March by Jakaya Kikwete, the President of Tanzania.

AzamTV is boosting its line-up of over 55 channels with a new offer called "Azam Reloaded", launched on 1 March and featuring a full decoder/dish kit for $55 and three package options.

Rhys Torrington, CEO of Azam Media, commented on the new contract: "Eutelsat's satellite capacity and unrivalled DTH experience enabled us to launch an exceptional entertainment offer at a great price. This new contract equips us with the resources to fast track our development and further enhance the services we offer subscribers across our target markets. It also paves the way for an acceleration of HD content that raises the bar for further quality."

Michel Azibert, Chief Commercial and Development Officer of Eutelsat, added: "AzamTV is one of the most exciting digital broadcasting ventures launched in Africa over the last 18 months. Compelling and attractively priced content, a strong retail network and high-power reach over Africa are the assets Azam has assembled to play its part in the digital broadcasting wave. We are delighted to be their chosen satellite partner and to see our 7° East position, occupied by two copositioned satellites, firmly rooted in Africa's TV landscape."

I am glad AZAM is investing money in Kenya. However Supersport are still televising the main league (KPL) and nobody watches the FKF league which Azam is televising. Why is AZAM spending Ksh 202 million on a league that virtually nobody watches? Somebody please help explain what is AZam's angle.

i predicted to hear this few days ago.
whatever the case may be,Azam is there to stay.

Because Bakhresa and his group has more money than most EA and he is not afraid to spend it. The difference between an average Joe and Bakhresa is Bakhresa knows more about money.

Just sit back and see Azam take over EA Media scene. Come back to this comment 3 years later.

Aah!!wamenikera nao hawa kwa kupandisha bei kienyeji, nimetuma hela kwa bei ya zamani ikazama, kuuliza wanasema itakuwa ngumu kuipata!!hakuna tofauti kati ya mwizi mweupe wala mwizi mweusi!!wote wezi tu.

I am glad Azam is there to say. Unlike Tanzanians, Kenyan actually welcome foreign investment from all our neighbours. We have no hostility nor jealousy. Hiyo sio pesa yangu.

I am glad Azam is investing because they are providing employment opportunity for young Kenyan footballers. Now thanks to Azam, Kenya is one of the few countries where both the first and second tier leagues have lucrative TV deals. A Kenyan youngstar who would have been spending all day idling and smoking bhang can now play for Kariobangi Sharks (timu ya mtaa) and earn a living. All thanks to Azam.

Kimweri arent you also an average Joe? Or does Bakhressa share his money with you? Anywayz your answer does not make sense. A business does not pay for a lower tier league just because they have a lot of money to spend.

An intelligent answer explaining Azam's business model would be welcome from anyone. Are they planning to take over from Supersport? That would be difficult but I would be glad if they took over. Their product offering is better.

I didn't question His Business decision, you did.

They are replacing super sport everywhere in EA. AZAM is not just TV, it is a MEDIA Empire in the making, they have EA's best studios, the satelite TV business as well as their own footbal club and academy. They are in the sports and entertainment business for the very long haul. And while they tie everyone in their media circle. They sell a lot of FMCG in and around Central and Eastern Africa. Azam Brand is very strong in TZ, Malawi, Zambia and Congo and they want to make sure it get's the same strength in Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.

AZAM Brand is about affordable products that everyday African uses, from drinking water, to food stuffs.

So spending a few Million to achieve that is certainly something they can afford easily.

so you have done a market research and predicted in 3 years time the league will be in the same state as at the moment ? If this same Azam TV have taken broadcast rights in Uganda and Tanzania, what makes you judge indecisiveness in their decision? what if tomorrow they snatch rugby league is Kenya? How much have the big three accomplished so far as digital migration is concerned?

Slightly confused, kuna FKF league na KPL league?

I do not have to do any research. Anyone with half a brain knows that Kenyans will never watch a second tier league. In fact Kenyans barely watch the top tier league so how will they watch a second tier league on TV.

And yes In three years time, the second tier league will be exactly where it is right now. It has always been that way for the past 30 or 40 years therefore it is not likely to change.
If Azam snatch the rugby league I will be happy. I am a rugby fan. Kenya has been going from strength to strength in rugby. They have reached the semi finals of the rugby sevens world cup twice in a row. No other black African country has accomplished what Kenya has achieved in this regard. If Azam pours money into Kenyan rugby, then Kenya will only get stronger. This is good.
