REHABILITATION OF ARUSHA MINJINGU ROAD PROJECT TAKES OFF
The contract of the Arusha Minjingu Road Project (98 km) was signed between Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) on behalf of the Government of Tanzania and contractor SOGEA SATOM of France on 12th May 2011.
This contract signing was done the by Acting Chief Executive of TANROADS, Eng. Patrick Mfugale and Branch Manager of contractor SOGEA SATOM Mr. David Curtarello.
During the ceremony Eng. Patrick Mfugale cautioned the contractor that TANROADS would make a very close follow-up on the Project and emphasized them to complete the project on time.
In a brief statement Mr. David Curtarello of SOGEA SATOM said they will do whatever is necessary to ensure the project implementation is in accordance with the contract requirement and within the time frame.
The Rehabilitation of Arusha Minjingu Road (98 km) Project Works contract will involve:-
(i) rehabilitation of 98 km by milling and stabilizing the existing pavement, laying of 150 mm crushed stone base and 50 mm asphalt concrete (AC) surfacing;
(ii) improvement of drainage by replacing existing old culverts with new larger size ones, extending others to match the improved pavement layers and excavation of a flood diversion channels; and
provision of appropriate road safety measures to slow down traffic in built-up areas and to allow safe pedestrian crossing.
The Arusha Minjingu Road (90 km) which is part of the Great North Corridor is fully funded by the World Bank. The rehabilitation of this project will be of a contract amount of Tshs. 75,510,520,575.86 excluding Value Added Tax (VAT) and is expected to be completed by October 2013.
