Project Description
Rehabilitation and upgrading of the 197 km of road which would be the first toll road in Tanzania (First 100 km 6 lanes and then 4 lanes). The project requires the construction of a new road, adjacent to the existing road, that will give drivers the choice between paying for a superior toll road, constructed to expressway standards, or making use of the existing road. The project comprises four and six lane carriageways, 8 interchanges, 7 toll plazas and weigh bridges as well as a number of bridges.
Tanzania’s Roads Act 2007 recognises the Dar es Salaam – Chalinze – Morogoro road section as part of the main TANZAM Highway and Central Corridor T-1 route which connects Dar es Salaam and its port with land locked neighbouring countries.
Project Objectives and Benefits
The conceptual plans for the 62.2km road recommend a 6-lane expressway standard toll road with services roads, depressed median and safety barriers at the shoulders. A design speed of 120 km/hr. is recommended. To achieve full access, control structures
Traffic volumes on the existing Dar es Salaam – Morogoro road currently exceed the road’s
design capacity, resulting in severe congestion. The associated long travel times and road
safety issues further hamper socio-economic development in the region. The Government of Tanzania, as part of its national development plan, has decided to construct a new toll road to alleviate the congestion and associated issues. The road network in Tanzania currently comprises 91 049km of roads of which 12 786km are categorised as trunk roads, 20 226km as regional roads and the remaining 58 037km as district, urban and feeder roads. However, only 6 578km or 7% of the total road network is paved.

You miss my point, which is this: it is an exaggeration saying Tanzania is among the best in Africa for paved roads network.

Mkuu, sitaki kukpinga fikra zako na data zako....ila naomba tufikirie kwa pamoja nje ya box. Nakupa mifano michache tu kisha uijumlishe...Naamini kabisa njia hizi kuu zina lami:
Dar-Mtwara, Mtwara-Tunduma
Dar-Shinyanga, Shy-Mza, Mza-Msoma, Msoma-Tarime, Mza Bukoba kupitia Geita
Shinyanga-Kahama to Kigoma na hata to BKB
Dar - Arusha, Arusha - Dodoma, Dodoma - Kwenda huko kusini kupitia Iringa
Dar - Iringa, Mbeya hadi Tunduma
Dar - Tanga

nakuendelea....Hivi hizi njia ujumla wake ni hizo 8000 km? Serious? Na bado ni njia nyingi tu sijazitaja hapo.

I hope umejibu kulinganisha na kile mleta maada alichodai hapa (best roads in Africa) na nilichomjibu kwa kuweka statistics (ambazo zinahusisha financier wa roads infrastructure hapa nchini). Sijahusisha paved kilometres as a row data (kama ulivyofanya wewe).
