A 55-years-old man who tested positive for the new coronavirus was on Wednesday night laid to rest in a burial supervised by medics and the police at Kagawet village in Bomet

A handful of family members were allowed to witness the burial but were required to maintain a 50-meters distance between them and the grave

The burial itself took less than 25 minutes and saw police officers secure the site as early as 6pm

The body was escorted to the village at night by a police vehicle with a blaring siren which cleared the way from the Longisa Refferal Hospital mortuary to the burial site

Police officers also ensured that no prayer meeting was held or any gathering in the neighbourhood in relation to the funeral.

Bomet county Health Minister Dr. Joseph Sitonik said the graveside will remain under watch for a while despite the fumigation which was conducted as per the regulations.

The 55-year-old patient Ernest Kosgei was admitted to the Longisa County Referral Hospital on May 4 having travelled to Nairobi to seek treatment for diabetes.

The patient however succumbed the following day at around 1pm.

According to reports, samples taken from his body and taken to the KEMRI lab in Kisumu turned positive for COVID-19

16 family members who came into contact with the deceased have since been sent into quarantine at Kaplong Girls with contact tracing of several others currently underway.

Kenyans are learning some new tricks from their regional brothers...
The difference here is that the burials has nothing to do with hiding, but the directive by the government to burry any dead person within the shortest period possible after death. This to discourage gatherings and contamination.

That shows how stupid you Kenyans are, the same thing if is done in Tanzania is wrong, or you must give bad intention, but if is done in Kunyaland you sanitizer it. Pumbavu kabisa ninyi.

You are a Clueless lot. That's not the same thing as that which happens in Tanzania. Before it even happened in Tanzania it had already happened in Kenya and Kenyans were all over the media complaining about it the same way they've condemed this one. Despite the outcry, it is being done in full glares of camera unlike Tanzania where the burials are done under state sunctioned secrecy. Were it not for members of the oposition. Nobody could know that bodies are being buried en masses in Tanzania!..

This should not even be a topic. The MOH has guidelines of how burials will be conducted, we can not afford to have crowds that pose a danger to society. If you insist on crowding at a funeral then your kin will be buried at night by GOK if he/she died of corona or by yourselves under supervision of police if they died of any other illness.

Kenya is different because:-
i) The patient was reported dead by MOH in their daily briefing and also publicly confirmed being positive.

ii) 16 of his family members were in quarantine after coming into contact with him , a doctors and 18 nurses are also in quarantine too after they treated him without knowing he is infected.

iii) The villagers wanted to attend the burial that is why they buried at night to avoid a crowd as stipulated in regulations of MOH.

iv) All funerals in kenya now can not have more than 15 people in attendance to avoid crowds and if you insist on breaking this rule your kin will be buried at night whether they die of covid, cancer etc.

v) No funeral will take more than 20 minutes ie Bury and leave to avoid crowds.

v) All funeral attendants from other areas will have to leave the village immediately after the body is buried and not interact with other people.

This is not the same with Tanzania where, the government does not acknowledge that Tanzania has covid 19 infections and is arresting any journalist who reports on covid19 and buries all dead people at night as if they all died of corona virus (Indicative that they are hiding something). The GOT does not give data on infections or deaths.

COVID 19 will force you to appreciate Islam.

We, Muslims, never delay burials. Alhamdulillah.

Wahindu na Wabudha wanachoma maiti moto kabisa(cremation),hauna hata haja ya kuwa unakwenda kutembelea kaburini na kuombea waliokufa.Huoni pia wanaokoa nafasi na muda?
