At least four people have been killed and ten injured in a car bomb attack outside a mosque in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, shortly after worshippers began leaving the compound, Security Department spokesman Khalid Zadran has said.
"Attacking mosques and worshippers is an unforgivable crime. The nation must cooperate with the system to eliminate the criminals," Taliban regime spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a message on his official Twitter profile.
The Uazir Akbar Khan Mosque, located in Police District 10, is situated in the so-called 'Green Zone' of Afghanistan's capital, where numerous embassies and government buildings are located.
For the moment no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, although Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has perpetrated dozens of attacks since the Taliban seized power in the Central Asian country in August 2021.
ISKP, which considers the Taliban to be traitors to the orthodoxy of 'sharia' or Islamic law and advocates a much harsher interpretation, has been the target of a Taliban security campaign in the face of its attacks, some of which have targeted mosques.
