Borax, also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate, is an important boron compound, a mineral, and a salt of boric acid. Powdered borax is white, consisting of soft colorless crystals that dissolve easily in water.
Borax has a wide variety of uses. It is a component of many detergents, cosmetics, and enamel glazes. It is also used to make buffer solutions in biochemistry, as a fire retardant, as an anti-fungal compound for fiberglass, as a flux in metallurgy, neutron-capture shields for radioactive sources, a texturing agent in cooking, and as a precursor for other boron compounds.
In artisanal gold mining, the borax method is sometimes used as a substitute for toxic mercury in the gold extraction process. Borax was reportedly used by gold miners in parts of the Philippines in the 1900s.[SUP][2][/SUP]
The term borax is used for a number of closely related minerals or chemical compounds that differ in their crystal water content, but usually refers to the decahydrate. Commercially sold borax is usually partially dehydrated.
The word borax is from Arabic būraq (بور&#1602😉, meaning "white"; which is from Middle Persian bwrk, which might have meant potassium nitrate or another fluxing agent, now known as būrah (بور&#1607😉. Another name for borax is tincal, from Sanskrit.[SUP][3][/SUP]
Borax was first discovered in dry lake beds in Tibet and was imported via the Silk Road to Arabia.[SUP][3][/SUP] Borax first came into common use in the late 19th century when Francis Marion Smith's Pacific Coast Borax Company began to market and popularize a large variety of applications under the famous 20 Mule Team Borax trademark, named for the method by which borax was originally hauled out of the California and Nevada deserts in large enough quantities to make it cheap and commonly available.[SUP][4][/SUP][SUP][5][/SUP]

Hi ndg tumefurahi maelezo hayo walakin tutaipataje kwa njia rahisi khususan tupo mikoani mbali huku na tena vijijini ndio kuna dhahabu na tabu ya mecury tumechoka hebu tupe hizi njia mkuu

Borax and lime are used as flux agents in the cupellation process to separate silver and gold from base metals and other impurities. The process is carried out at temperatures between 800 and 900°C, i.e. lower than the melting point of the noble metals, and even below the temperature at which the slag becomes totally molten. Base metals are oxidized and removed with the slag, while gold and silver, which do not oxidize, sink and build up, leading to doré bars for further partitioning and refining. This process would only be economical if silver and/or gold are pre-concentrated first, as it is the case in anode slimes from copper electrolytic refining.

Kwa ulewa wangu borax haitumiki kukamata dhahabu bali inatumika wakati wa smelting kutenganisha dhahabu na impurities nyingine ambazo zinayeyuka kwa joto dogo kuliko dhahabu.

Borax inatumika as replacement ya Mercury. Although both borax and mercury zina effect kwa human health but borax effect is very very minimum compared to mercury.

Ushauri wangu kama Mtaalam wa hii field.Better use Borax and it is believed to have high recovery compared to Mercury based on researches that were conducted na sio story story za mtaani
