The government has commended the Business and Registration Licencing Agency (BRELA) for its move to reform, modernise and computerise its operations in order to increase efficiency and enable online registration of business names.
"BRELA is in the right track of addressing these challenges by undertaking business process re-engineering towards online service delivery.
This ensures effective service delivery to the business community," said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Uledi Mussa when opening BRELA's stakeholders meeting on the online registration process held in the city yesterday.
He said the agency has already procured a consultant to undertake business mapping and re-engineering process that will give a clear business map and diagram for the entire registrations processes to allow technological improvement including putting in place online registrations system.
He explained that, the consultant's general objective is to help BRELA to establish a clear walk through business registration processes and systems that are structured, pictorially illustrated, and aligned with the government's current and future improvements.
Mussa noted that the consultancy work will provide an appropriate benchmark to arrive at increased productivity, focused response and efficient and effective customer service delivery to the clients and the general public.
According to him, the Online Registration System (ORS) will allow BRELA's clients to access the service easily and register online using any computerised device.
He said the ORS will as well provide complete information to users and allow payment gateway integration to enable users to make online payments.
For his part, BRELA Chief Executive Officer, Frank Kanyus said the agency started to implement the process for online registration in August 2014.
He said the online registration system project focuses on automating all of the agency's services and therefore moves from manual operations to online service delivery with the aim of improving efficiency and effectiveness in providing services to customers and the business community at large.
Kanyusa said the project will be implemented in two phases where the first phase involves designing and installation of ORS and determination of the system requirements.
He said in the second phase, the ORS will involve scaling-up the services to upcountry regions and districts by establishing service points.
He however said the objectives of the stakeholders meeting was to inform key stakeholders on what BRELA is doing to improve service delivery through adopting modern technologies, report on the progress of the ORS processes and to foster their inputs on the initiative.
