Kenya has signed an agreement with her three other counterparts to hasten the stalled talks on boosting intra-Africa trade.
Yesterday Kenya's Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr Amina Mohamed led her counterparts of South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt to pen down the agreement that should see 'tangible' progress before the October 2017 deadline.
These are Dr Rob Davis(South Africa), Dr Okechukwu Enelamah(Nigeria) and Amb Amgad Ghaffar(Egypt).
The four leaders took advantage of the Tokyo International Conference for African Development (Ticad) to address the stalled talks on the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) that was President Uhuru Kenyatta's proposal during the African Union summit held earlier in Kigali, Rwanda.
Establishment of the CFTA is meant to boost intra-Africa trade (which is currently very low at 12 per cent) by bringing together 54 nations with a Gross Domestic Product of Sh250 trillion(USD 2.5 trillion).
"The four countries represent the four economic blocks. Also, they are the most active countries in the discussions on CFTA hence the importance of them spearheading the talks," said Amb Nelson Ndirangu Director Economic Affairs at Foreign Affairs ministry who noted that the talks have so far covered just 'basic grounds.' Kenya signs partnership to speed up intra-Africa trade

Uza kile unacho, nunua kile hauna kutoka kwa waafrica mwanzo, ukikosa ndo utafute nje ya Africa,

Preach bruh Preach, Tanzania is busy trying to portray Kenya as being sidelined by it's previously close neighbors (COW) but in the real sense our leaders are overlooking their pettiness and are trying to unite the whole continent, the amount of effort that the Jubilee government has put in bring Africa together can not be ignored. jana Uhuru alikua south sudan peace talks na aka promise misaada kwa watu wa sudan as the south sudan goverment had earlier requested. waendelee tu kubana, sisi tunafungua.

Ok, then what?

As long as the continent is united, whatever the way you want it to happen. Disintegration benefits no one.

too many useless unions in africa, eac, sadc, comesa, igad, au, ecowas, pta, et..al

one trade union would then be of more benefit, wouldn't you agree?
yes i do,its just simple common sense, regional trade integration has long been a strategic objective for Africa yet, despite some success in eliminating tariffs within regional communities, the African market remains highly fragmented. A range of non-tariff and regulatory barriers still raise transaction costs and limit the movement of goods, services, people and capital across borders throughout Africa.
