The legal profession used to be a noble one for highly intelligent people but now its no longer the case in Tanzania. Advertising your work as a lawyer was prohibited in the past. Lawyers called themselves Esquire – a high social rank.
But now its no longer the case in Tanzania. The irony is that the current lawyers who tarnish the profession are all mediocre. The Tanganyika Law Society has to take the blame for eyeing quantity over quality and maturity. Real lawyers won't have the time to post pictures of cash money on instagram. Morally its also not nice for the legal profession.
The same complains people have had with regard to the products of Shule Za Kata' is marauding the legal profession in Tanzania right now. Too many advocates, their professional standing highly questionable. People used to be admitted into High Court Advocacy in a respectable ceremony at the Chambers of the High Court (about 20-30 annually) now the graduation is conducted at the Diamond Jubilee Hall - 'Quantity'!!!!
Have you seen professional (or celebrity) Surgeons posting their babies carrying cash money on the social media? Have you seen any prominent Lawyer in the world showing pictures of cash money on instagram? This is why I tend to agree with you that this guy is an educated fool. In Swahili the right reference for him is ‘Mshamba.'
These are people who came from very poor families and they are the only Superstars (‘Flagships') who had the chance to go to the University, become lawyers and earn some money. If he was in my family, in which we now have third generation lawyers, third generation PhDs, numerous masters, fourth generation diasporas, etc he wouldn't have done this and we would have advised him against.
As a Lawyer, he should leave this foolish social media show-offs to the LAYMEN.
Before you react thinking I am a Hater, you need to educate yourself about the conducts expected of Lawyers and the traditional standards governing the profession, which is what I am talking about here. I am not talking about Wema Sepetu, hip hop artist or drug mule showing off his or her money!
