CHADEMA district chairman deported Back to Rwanda

The chairman of CHADEMA in Mbogwe District has been deported to Rwanda.

Mr Omari Athanas was an illegal immigrant and was deported along with three other people, according to acting District Commissioner Amani Mwenegoha.

The opposition politician was earlier accused of inciting CHADEMA supporters to violence during local government elections in the district's Lugunga ‘A' area.

Mr Mwegoha said Mr Athanas was arrested with five other people after violence broke out during the December 14 elections.

"After his arrest, a background check was done and it was established that he had lived in this area for over a decade as an illegal immigrant. He was then deported to Rwanda," he said.

He added that a voter register was stolen during the violence blamed on CHADEMA supporters, prompting the postponement of the elections in the affected area.

"The chaos appeared to have been planned in advance and was well coordinated. We later learnt of the involvement of foreigners who had lived in this area for many years," Mr Mwenegoha said, adding that Mr Athanas' three associates were also Rwandan.

He said Mr Athanas was arrested during a recent crackdown on illegal immigrants and admitted being a Rwandan national and pleaded guilty before the Bukombe District Court of living in the country illegally.

"He was fined and ordered to obtain the necessary papers allowing him to live and work in Tanzania. He didn't do so and instead vied for the post of CHADEMA district chairman."

Others deported to Rwanda were Mr Issa Athuman, Mr Machibya Sumbuka and Mr Salum Ntinginya. Mr Machibya was a candidate in the local government elections.

Mr Mwenegoha warned the four against returning to Tanzania, saying they risked spending the rest of their lives behind bars.

Cheap politics by ccm leaders supported by the ccm affiliated police force! Whose blame that is supposed to be? If those refugees were allowed to live in a foreign country for such long periods, whose fault is that? Must be the government itself at all levels..
One simple question to whoever may respond to it: Have you ever heard such accusations being thrown towards ccm members? They can have whatever nationalities they need for their candidates, and they can cause their immigration papers to be processed in a day(even at midnight) for the purpose of attaining legal citizenship of theis foreign candidates.
My take is this: such cheap and weak tactics by the rotten ccm, wont do them any good. Their days are numbered, that is as clear as daylight

which country are you from? Don't you know iddi simba (minister), jenerali ulimwengu (former DC), ambassador Timothy bandora were all stripped of their citizenship for being Rwandese? Are these not CCM members? All foreigners must follow the law.

Jmali you have a point somehow somewhere. Taking the examples you have mentioned all those guys faced such allegations after they entered into conflicts with the ruling part itself.. I dont have to expain much on this, Ulimwengu is an icon journalist who faced such accusations due to his opposed opinions and writings towards ccm.. dont u ask yourself how in a country like Tanzania, with the rule of law one can rise to become a DC or minister and later on declared not a Tanzanian!? How, dont we have intelligence units, migration units?
Okay do u know somebody Hussein Bashe? A prominent and long time ccm member was sucked from running for MP seat on the same allegations, but today as we discuss he is still a Tanzanian. And all those u mentioned are still Tanzanians no one was ever deported!
They were only threatened not to go against the ruling mafisadi ccm

Very Good, good comments!!! There are many CCM senior officials who have been confirmed to be migrants but have been protected by ruling party at unidentified costs! This is a childish and unbalanced or call it double standards. The Tanzania Government officials should not take measures to any one who is against CCM ONLY in respect of good governance and rule of law not otherwise! The ruling party is to determine whether they rise its popularity through acts like this or loose it, all kind of these events happen to rotten and failed National security systems! that is what wise people can think of.

Same practice taken against Municipal / District Executive Directors who failed to protect CCM interests during recent local government elections, this is again a shame! What kind of behavior do CCM wants to show to the Tanzania citizens? That if elect or you support oppositions you're in for it? I don't think so! White will never turn to black!
