Wewe unafakamia tu. Ndio maana bidhaa zetu zinashindwa kupenya kwenye masoko ya nje.

Sidhani kama umenielewa nilichokiandika japo umenijibu vizuri.

Sijasema nafakamia bidhaa.

Why is salt inelastic i.e. price change does not effect demand?
Good question, if you increase or decrease price of salt, it will not affect volume.
Can you buy a bag of salt due to price ?
I guess no.
Strategy approach was suppose to be good distribution. Then the rest will come.
If you change the price of sugar......the whole country knows ! That's elastic demand.

What if you decrease the supply of it what will happen to its price and demand. It is obvious price will go higher and few who have plenty of cash will have large stokes of it in their kitchens for fear of missing it in the market when need be. Hence what to the salt?

You can't keep cartons of salt at home, one packet of salt of 500g can last for 2 months for a small family (5 members).
Even if an abnormal severe shortage happened.
By the way, note that chumvi is produced locally in several processing plants. No one dare took an initiative of using a huge marketing budget. Because of its nature.
Chumvi is chumvi, and if you take out the label brand name, no one can easily tell you (by testing) that this is a Neel brand or Malindi brand.

You're very right, but one has in addition of taste to also look for other qualities of the commodity such as contents, expiry date, quality, package, credibility etc. We should discourage the lay shopping model

Point taken,
Definitely that will encourage industrialization.
However, am still shocked by that marketing budget.
