Climate Map: Only a Small Part of Kenya is Suitable for Agriculture, But We Produce More Food than Tanzania

Climate Map: Only a Small Part of Kenya is Suitable for Agriculture, But We Produce More Food than Tanzania

umeona tofauti yenu na sisi.. sisi hata mtu mmoja akilala njaa n big Story duniani. Ila nyinyi suala LA njaan nikawaida kabsa hakuna mtu anakua shocked

Nani alimroga?

I'm not rejoicing.
I'm just bemused. What does Tanzania do with all those acres of arable land?

We (the "we" means our countries in East Africa) are facing the same problem. Kenya maybe well advanced in farming (technology and business wise) but at the end of the day it is those chaps from the UK who really pull strings. I would prefer if we were stealing from each other and investing the loot within the region.

Africa: Beans Galore As Dar Exports Feed 10 Countries

Hahaha, Tanzania feeds other Ten countries apart from Kenya. 50% of legumes is from Tanzania.

Ironically kenya leads on tea production, but can't feed itself, if you claim that your climate is semi desert, where do you cultivate black tea?. The truth of the matter is, capitalism placed fertile land in the hands of capitalists and Kenyatta family, they only cultivate tea and flowers.

A million tonnes is not that impressive, Kenya produces 700,000 tonnes despite the smaller arable land

Kenya’s production of grain legumes stands at 0.76 million metric tonnes per year, making it the fourth-largest producer in Africa — after Nigeria, Tanzania and Ethiopia — and 17th in the world. Попередження про переадресування

Kenya has done incredibly well if you look at that map. Ethiopia ought to feed the world - I wonder why they are poster child of famine - must be communism like Tanzania inducing laziness.

Kenya doesn't depend on TZ to feeding herself. Kenya on bad years have small maize & beans deficit that get filled mostly by Uganda - very small deficit. Kenya easily produces 35M bags of maize against a demand of around 40M - and in some years like 2018 - kenya has excess 6M bags.

Kenya despite it's climatic condition is an agricultural giant because of basic stuff like fertilizer application. Kenya farm productivity is 2-3 times Tanzania.

Kenyan farmers use the highest average of fertiliser per hectare in Africa.

According to the report published by the Agrarian Green Revolution for Agriculture (AGRA) 2013, an average of 32kg of fertiliser is applied per hectare in Kenya. This is against the recommended 50kg per hectare.

Malawi closely follows Kenya at 29 and Zimbabwe at 28. Uganda comes fourth at 27kg per hectare. Globally, Netherlands uses 238kg of fertiliser per hectare. India comes second — using 167kg of fertiliser.
Kenya leads in the usage of fertiliser despite food insecurity : The Standard

Only Uganda can claim not to depend on us for food among the 8 neighbours we have! #Brutal fact#
