Hello everyone,
currently I am writing a thesis about the german colonial ruler Herrmann von Wissmann who was active in "German-East-Africa" from 1988-1996. In the thesis I am approaching to falsify arguments from german right-wing extremist groups that are trying to enforce their historically wrong and racist image about german colonialism on the society.
One of their arguments is the claim, that Herrmann von Wissmann was "a friend to all black people and the victor over the slave trade". Following that line of argument they state that up to today people in Tanzania are greatful for what he has done and that Tanzanians want to reinstall his monument in Dar-es-Salaam.
In order to deconstruct this abstruse line of argument I need your help and would like to ask the following questions:
1. What do you know about the colonial master Herrmann von Wissmann?
2. How is Herrmann von Wissmann being perceived in Tanzania nowadays?
