Construction works of the Kenol-Isiolo dual road in Kenya, a project that seeks to further ease transportation and trade in the Northern Corridor is set to commence next month.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Director General Peter Mundinia confirmed the reports and said that a contractor would be on site at the beginning of July, hence the need for structures on the way of the designed carriageway to be demolished.

“All the necessary arrangements about the project having been put in place and we are ready to begin. This project will open opportunities from Moyale to Nairobi due to the good infrastructure,” said Mundinia.

The much awaited 80-km highway road would link Kenol, in Machakos County, to the towns of Ruiru and Thika, in Kiambu County, Kabati and Makuyu in Muranga County, Sagana and Kibirigwi in Kirinyaga County, Karatina and Kiganjo in Nyeri County, Nanyuki in Laikipia County and Isiolo, in Isiolo County. The road is an extension of Thika Superhighway that was built by President Mwai Kibaki’s regime to open up the Northern Corridor connecting the Coast to northern Kenya and Ethiopia.

The project estimated to cost US $488m, is being financed by the African Development Bank. KeNHA was designing of the Nyeri-Isiolo stretch, having completed the Kenol-Nyeri segment in readiness for the commencement of the bidding process to determine the budget.

The proposal to convert the busy road to a dual carriageway has driven many to acquire parcels locally, leading to an increase in land prices. An acre of land that previously went for US $1950 can now fetch US $39,017. In some areas the same size of land goes for US $68000. Some businessmen are already buying and selling land to developers engaged in hospitality.

This project is long overdue...You can imagine a road trip to Mt. Kenya suing the dual...And knowing how Central guys are opportunists, the number of residehtials that will open up along that route...It's gonna be huge!

You mean commercial properties?

The only problem with the northern region is insecurity but that place would be like a mini dubai if security was no longer a challenge.
It seems like we are all making steady progress and thats what we all need and want. Big ups to every Kenyan playing their role in building the nation.

With better infrastructure comes better security.

It is n it will.In that region, meru used to.. it no longer does.
If am not wrong isiolo is the centre most town in Kenya and so you can imagine its future prospects.
LOVE how we're slowly, steadily walking vision2030.
Meru will continue to undoubtedly.. Simply because isiolo is one part in meru the other half isiolo just like the airport half in isiolo half meru. And all the un deveoloped land is in meru for expansion... Thats why meru will still call shots. Same case meru just start almost in nanyuki town.
Another reason this dual carriage from nanyuki to iskolo will pas through 78 km of meru County. Towns like Timau will greatly benefit.

The stretch btwn makuyu-kabiti-kenol is a blackspot that has claimed many lives, some say the witchcraft at kabiti is the reason(Un attended charcoal for sale along the road😁😁) . This road was overdue, practical solutions not like the silly prayers we saw with Ruto's Jezebel wife at salgaa..

All the food produced in meru will have a large market in isolo should it become a city.... Merus dominate isiolo town business and make 50% of the population in the town..the southern part of isiolo bulapesa, wandera, kulamawe, mwangaza. Etc are exclusively inhabited by Merus northern part is somalis borana turkana and samburu. I see Meru actually benefiting more than isiolo

Nanyuki Town sits squarely in Laikipia County, but no other major urban centre lies in Laikipia county as far as this dual carriage way is concerned, except Narumoro. Its true that towns in Meru County will benefit immensely starting with Makutano town past Nanyuki, Katheri, Mathagiro, Mia Moja, Timau all the way to Makutano next to Meru Town.

Nikija Mwisho wa Reli ntakukumbusha promise yako ya ngamia 'nyamchom', si ni pale next to Nyakio's au? I don't reside in Nanyuki but that whole stretch and ecosystem was once my playground. From Chaka in Nyeri County, Sweetwaters in Laikipia County, Ontulili, Ncoroiboro and Rugirini next to Mt Kenya in Meru County, Archer's Post in Isiolo County all the way to Hargeisa, Habaswein and Modogashe in Wajir County. I had the best time in that locality, wasalamie akina Mutwiri na M'Mtoaboo pale Sportsman Arms Hotel na Checkers Club.

When I hear Kenyans bragging about building a road, its usually of less than 100km. It make me wonder a Dar- Mwanza road of 1,200 km would have built how many roads in Kenya!
