The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has urged its supporters to remain calm and wait for the announcement of the final outcome of the March 4 poll by the electoral commission.
Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said it is premature for their main competitors in the Jubilee Coalition to claim victory in the presidential contest.
Mr Musyoka, who is the coalition's running mate, said they were sure of emerging victorious after all votes are counted.
"We note with worry that there are those amongst our competitors who have not resisted the temptation to engage in premature celebrations that are neither based on data or fact," said Mr Musyoka at a news conference in Serena hotel on Tuesday.
Provisional results released by the IEBC indicate that the Jubilee Presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta is ahead of Cord's flag bearer Raila Odinga in the votes tallied so far.
By 5.30 pm, Mr Kenyatta had garnered 2, 716,861 votes against Mr Odinga's 2,131, 279 votes.
"It is important that we await the outcome of the remaining two thirds of the polling stations in order to make any conclusion about the results of this election," said Mr Musyoka at a news conference on Tuesday.
"Consequently, we appeal for calm and call on our supporters to relax because we are confident that after all the votes are in, Cord will carry the day. Results from our strongholds are yet to be made public and once they are, things will change dramatically. That's basic statistics," he said.
Even as they exuded confidence of winning the election, Mr Musyoka however raised concerns over delays in the process of releasing the poll results by the electoral commission especially in areas as close as Nairobi city.
"We have raised the matter with the electoral commission and the Safaricom, the service provider who have explained to us the their capacity to relay results from areas closer to the city like Kiambu is much faster than far flung areas like Garissa," said the VP.
"We have forwarded our concerns and hope that they will deal with them expeditiously and transparently," he said.
Mr Musyoka expressed worry over the large number of votes that have been rejected in the results of the elections announced so far.
The electoral commission has promised to investigate the problem.
IEBC chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan said an audit would be carried out at the end of the counting process to find why so many voters made so many mistakes during voting.
He reiterated that if they lose the election ‘fairly' they will concede defeat and asked their competitors to do the same.
The Vice President said based on the results announced so far, Cord was a national outfit, owing to the number of votes received from various parts of the country.
