Leaders of one of the main political groupings are in retreat ahead of Saturday's much publicised city rally.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and Trade Minister Moses Wetang'ula began a two-day retreat last night to plan their campaign strategy.

Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka are expected reveal who between them will be the coalition's flagbearer.

Refused to reveal

A merged inter-party manifesto is also expected to be unveiled.

Allies said the retreat will discuss the possibility of fielding candidates under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) at the retreat.

Although organisers refused to reveal the venue, sources said officials had booked space at a famous Naivasha lodge.

Mr Odinga and his coalition partners are expected to fine-tune details of their campaign structures. MP Johnstone Muthama (Kangundo) said:

"We are not going to share seats. But we are going to discuss how to make Kenya one indivisible country where tribalism is not used to undermine national stability."

NAIVASHA; KENYA: CORD alliance has agreed on their presidential candidate and his running mate and this will be announced on Saturday in Uhuru Park.

As the alliance members arrived for a two day retreat in Great Rift Valley Lodge Naivasha, they expressed confidence of forming the next government.

Twenty four key members of the alliance led by the PM Raila Odinga, VP Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula are expected to attend the retreat.

Addressing the press, the alliance top leaders said that the workshop was a strategy meeting before Saturday's rally.

According to MP Johnstone Muthama from Wiper Democratic Party, the issue of their presidential candidate and his running mate had been solved. The Kangundo MP said that the alliance leadership had been agreed on adding that this was no longer an issue.

"We are past the issue of our presidential candidate and running mate and the names will be announced on Saturday," he said.

It's expected that Raila will the alliance presidential candidate and Kalonzo his running mate.

He denied that the retreat would be used to share seats if they formed the next government noting that this was the prerogative of Kenyans.

Muthama hit out at their colleagues from Jubilee on their fall out and challenged them to solve their differences.

"We want to have two strong political blocks and our competitors should stick together and make sure that their house is in order," he said.

He was confident that the alliance would form the next government adding that they were working on major campaigns around the country.

On his part, ODM chairman Henry Kosgey said that they would on Saturday unveil their new team.Kosgey termed the two day retreat as very important where key decisions would be made ahead of the rally. He was however coy on whether they had agreed on who would lead the alliance saying that this would be announced during the rally.

"This is a strategy meeting for leaders of CORD and major issues will be made discussed among the top leaders.

Present in the hotel were ministers John Munyes, Dalmas Otieno, MPs Bifoli Wakori, Eseli Simiyu, David Musila and former Mp Omingo Magar

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday announced that he had stepped down in favour of Prime Minister Raila Odinga to be presidential candidate of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord).

Amid jubilation by the crowd in attendance at Uhuru Park, Mr Musyoka said that in the interest of the nation, he would be PM Odinga's running mate.

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula said the decision to endorse PM Odinga was arrived at after lengthy negotiations.

Mr Wetang'ula said he had ambitions to be Kenya's president but only realised that the dream could only be realised through unity.

While addressing the crowd, PM Odinga asked Kenyans to support his presidential bid.

PM Odinga also urged UDF leader Musalia Mudavadi to join Cord.

He also applauded Mr Musyoka and Mr Wetang'ula for putting the interest of the nation ahead of their personal ambitions in supporting him.

"Kalonzo and Wetang'ula have shown that Kenya is more important than any individual," he said.

He also said that Cord will ensure that economy grows beyond five per cent from next year.

Earlier, Minister Raila Odinga told Kenyans to elect Cord into government saying the alliance will bring the desired change and redress development. Read (Cord to name election line-up at Uhuru Park)

Saying this is Kenya's time, Mr Odinga asked Kenyans not to gamble with their future by electing people without reform credentials in office come the General Election.

He was speaking in his office when he received a delegation of grassroots leaders from Tharaka Nithi led by former MP for Tharaka Francis Kagwima who joined ODM.

PM Odinga called for sober politicking in the run up to the elections, noting parties and candidates should differ on policies and not personalities.

"We have superior policies than our competitors, and this is what we should demonstrate in our campaigns to win over votes to our alliance," he added.

Noting that the Cord alliance will seek to bring equality to all regions, Mr Odinga pledged to ensure the operationalisation of the equalization fund that will bring equitable development to the country.

He said, "We do not want to see the glaring differences in development that tend to cosign some regions to perpetual poverty yet others are wallowing in riches."

He pointed out that a Cord government will strive to exploit the newly discovered oil in Turkana and other mineral resources around the country for the benefit of all Kenyans.

ODM imekwenda wapi sasa?

Mkuu,

hii CORD ni muungano wa vyama na si chama...kwa hivyo ODM bado ipo.

Watakaposimama kura kugombea viti, they will use their respective party names on the ballot.

Iam not much into Kenyan politics but from what am seeing and hearing CORD seems a little matured and conformed than JUBILEE,who are acting like young boys,I mean the way they treated Musalia,I wonder why they went to beg him to join them when they knew their stands, these two guys are not too straight in any case we leave everything in the hands of the Kenyans, tunawaombea tu wasichembuane tena kma kipindi kile ingawa nikama wameshaanza Mdogo Mdogo na mikuki Yao Huko Turkana ......Bado Nadhani hawajajua Kuwa utaifa ni muhimu kuliko ukabila, heri yetu cc TZ hilo cyo issue hapa kwetu!
